Walt Disney World has already given guests plenty of reasons to complain about rising vacation costs this October. Now, another decision is making matters worse.
Just as visitors are adjusting to higher ticket prices, more expensive Annual Passes, and increased dining costs, Disney has eliminated a longtime discount that helped some of its most loyal guests save money.
The change might seem small compared to the cost of an entire vacation, but it’s already generating backlash. And for guests who feel like Disney keeps asking them to pay more while offering less, this latest move isn’t sitting well.

Disney World Eliminates Longtime Annual Passholder Discount
For years, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders could use their merchandise discounts to save money on bottled beverages purchased inside participating retail locations.
That meant guests could walk into stores like the Emporium at Magic Kingdom, grab a Coca-Cola or Powerade, and receive their usual discount.
Eligible Passholders could save approximately 20%, bringing a $5 bottled beverage down to around $4.
However, Disney has now eliminated that option.
Signs have appeared on beverage refrigerators throughout Walt Disney World informing guests that discounts no longer apply.
The change also affects other eligible groups, including Disney Vacation Club members who previously received similar savings.
Although the discount was technically a loophole in Disney’s merchandise policy, guests had been taking advantage of it for years.
Now, that small benefit has disappeared.
Price Increases Make Disney’s Decision Even More Frustrating
The timing couldn’t be much worse.
On October 6, 2026, Walt Disney World introduced another round of price increases affecting Annual Passes, food, drinks, and several premium experiences.
Disney has also raised the maximum price of certain single-day tickets for late 2027 to $229 before tax.
For families already struggling with the cost of visiting the resort, these increases create another financial headache.
Annual Passholders are particularly frustrated because they’re paying more to maintain their passes while losing a discount they previously enjoyed.
And while saving $1 on a drink won’t make or break someone’s vacation, it’s the principle behind the decision that’s causing complaints.
Disney didn’t have to eliminate this benefit.

Is Disney Taking Things Too Far?
Walt Disney World has every right to adjust its pricing and discount policies, but that doesn’t mean guests have to appreciate those decisions.
Annual Passholders already spend significant amounts of money visiting the parks throughout the year.
Removing a relatively small savings opportunity immediately after raising prices sends an unfortunate message to those loyal customers.
Disney hasn’t disclosed how much additional revenue it expects to generate from ending the discount.
However, the frustration surrounding the decision raises a bigger question about whether eliminating minor benefits is worth the negative reaction.
Guests are already paying more for admission, dining, and special experiences.
Now, even a discounted bottle of soda is becoming a thing of the past.
For longtime Disney fans, it’s another example of vacation costs continuing to climb while familiar benefits slowly disappear.
