REPORT: Disney Makes Abrupt Change to Unpopular Spider-Man Ride
Disney confirmed this week that it has tested an unexpected operational change on one of its Spider-Man attractions.

Marvel’s integration into Disney theme parks has unfolded gradually since Disney acquired Marvel Studios in 2009. Early efforts included Stark Expo at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2017, before expanding into full lands with Avengers Campus in California in 2021 and Paris in 2022.
Although they share branding, the two Avengers Campus locations differ in layout and attractions. California’s version includes Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and is set to expand at Disneyland Resort. Both lands feature a Spider-Man ride, operating under different names but the same core concept.
The ride places guests inside the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, a fictional program funded by Tony Stark. Visitors are recruited to help Spider-Man contain Spider-Bots that have escaped and begun multiplying throughout the facility.

Gameplay relies on gesture-based interaction. Riders use arm movements to sling virtual webs at on-screen targets, earning points as Spider-Man, voiced by Tom Holland, appears throughout the experience.
Since debuting, the attraction has drawn mixed responses. Guest feedback has frequently focused on its screen-heavy design, competitive scoring format, and comparisons to Toy Story Mania, another interactive shooter-style ride.
Disney Tests Changes on Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure
On December 26, Disney conducted a limited test affecting the European version of the attraction at Walt Disney Studios Park. During the test, the ride operated without its 3-D visual component.

Guests were notified via signage posted outside the attraction entrance. The sign read: “Exceptionally today, the web vision glasses won’t be needed.” The message indicated a planned operational change rather than a technical outage.
The move follows a similar pattern seen with another attraction at the same park. Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy is currently closed for updates that include the removal of 3-D after earlier testing periods.
Disney also removed 3-D from Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT earlier this year, making the change permanent following guest feedback and internal evaluations.

The 3-D component of both attractions had been a point of discussion among visitors. Some guests reported discomfort or motion sensitivity, while others viewed the effect as central to the ride experience.
Disney has not announced whether the Spider-Man test will result in permanent changes. No timeline has been shared, and no updates have been confirmed for the California version of the attraction.
For now, the test remains limited to a single date and location. Whether Disney plans to expand or repeat it has not been disclosed.
