EPCOT Gets a Major Update: Disney Reveals Exciting News for All Visitors

EPCOT’s transformation has been in the works for years, with the park gradually shifting from its original Future World concept to a series of new neighborhoods focusing on storytelling, discovery, and nature.

As part of this multi-year overhaul, multiple attractions have been reimagined, including the complete overhaul of the central hub, and new experiences like Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

With so many changes, one project has been flying under the radar for most casual visitors, even though its impact is massive. One of EPCOT’s most popular rides has been closed for months, and now, something is happening behind construction walls that signals its return is getting closer.

Late at night, guests have started noticing unusual activity—sounds of whirring motors and the unmistakable whoosh of high-speed vehicles moving along an outdoor track. Ride testing has officially begun on EPCOT’s next major attraction overhaul, a huge milestone for an attraction that has been closed since last year.

The ride, which has undergone multiple reimaginings over the years, is being transformed into a next-generation experience that draws inspiration from both the past and future of transportation. Concept art suggests a shift toward a more immersive experience, blending technological innovation with a nostalgic nod to the original attraction that once occupied the space. While the specifics of the updated ride system remain unclear, it’s clear that progress is accelerating, and guests can expect a major new experience when the attraction reopens later this year.

While an official opening date hasn’t been announced, Disney has previously stated that the ride will return in “Late Summer 2025.” However, with vehicle testing already underway, some believe an earlier reopening could be possible. Others speculate that Disney may hold off until fall to make the ride a centerpiece of the park’s seasonal offerings.

For now, all eyes are on the continued construction, and Disney fans will be eagerly awaiting updates as EPCOT’s biggest ride refresh in years moves closer to the finish line.
