Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes

No one wants to spend their vacation waiting in line. Guests who want to maximize their time in Disney Parks can purchase Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes.

These features allow guests to bypass the longer standby lines for different rides, shows, and attractions throughout the four Disney Parks. They also cost additional money.

Genie+ allows guests to use the lightning lane of multiple attractions throughout any Disney Park they visit that day. Purchase of Genie+ can begin at midnight, with the first selection available at 7:00 am via the My Disney Experience app.

Guests are given a one-hour return window to head to the attraction and use the lightning lane entrance.

Additional Genie+ selections can be made throughout the day when previous selections have been used or two hours have passed.

At each of the four Disney Parks, specific rides aren’t included with the purchase of Genie+. To use the lightning lane for these specific rides, guests must purchase them separately or individually.

The rides currently available with Individual Lightning Lanes are Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON: Lightcyle Run in Magic Kingdom. At EPCOT, the thrilling Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is available with Individual Lightning Lane. For Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the ever popular Avatar: Flight of Passage remains an Individual Lightning Lane, while at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the ride that is an Individual Lightning Lane.

These two systems are a great way to bypass the longer standby lines when visiting a Disney Park. The convenience does come with a price, and this holiday week, we have seen a significant increase in the cost.

Adjustments

With Thanksgiving a few days away, the crowds have already arrived at Walt Disney World. With those crowds also came an increase in the cost of Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes.

The cost for both Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes are date-based. This means that the cost for these features isn’t set but can go up and down. When it was first introduced, Genie+ was one set price for those visiting a single park and another for those wanting it for multiple parks. This changed in June.

In June, Disney introduced a park-specific Genie+ pricing. With this adjustment, we saw that Genie+ was at a different price point for each of the four parks and the “multiple park” option.

This was a nice adjustment as it saved some guests money when heading to Disney’s Animal Kingdom or EPCOT, as Genie+ didn’t cost as much as Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Holiday Price

The price for Genie+ goes up and down constantly daily. When guests opened their My Disney Experience app this morning, they had a big surprise.

Once again, Genie+ was up to $35 per person for Magic Kingdom and the Multiple Park option. This was the first time we have seen this since April 14. This is a $8 increase overnight.

It wasn’t just Genie+ that went up in price. Individual Lightning Lanes also went up overnight, with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance reaching $25/person.

Gene+ and Individual Lightning Lanes are a substantial additional cost for families traveling to Walt Disney World this holiday season. You must budget ahead if you want to avoid long lines throughout your Walt Disney World vacation.

Is Genie+ worth the high price tag this holiday weekend?
