Visitors expecting a full slate of rides yesterday were met with disappointment when a Disney park slashed its offerings to fewer than a dozen attractions. The latest closures arrive just as another storm looms. Typhoon Ragasa is tracking toward the city and is expected to hit on Wednesday, raising the likelihood of further shutdowns in the days ahead. Guests who already faced reduced options yesterday may see even more interruptions soon.

Strong Winds Shut Down Outdoor Attractions

At Hong Kong Disneyland, a Strong Wind Signal No. 3 prompted the suspension of every outdoor ride on September 19. That left headline attractions like Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars, Jungle River Cruise, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and the World of Frozen’s Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs closed for the day.

The list revealed just 12 experiences remained open, among them Frozen Ever After, “it’s a small world,” Mystic Manor, Hyperspace Mountain, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Iron Man Experience – Presented by AIA Hong Kong, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle! Non-ride options included Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Animation Academy, and stage shows. Festival of the Lion King, though listed, has been closed since September 3.

Anniversaries and Uncertainty

The disruption hit during the park’s 20th anniversary celebrations. Hong Kong Disneyland recently debuted Disney’s first Moana-inspired restaurant, Wayfinders’ Table, alongside “Friendtastic!,” its most elaborate parade yet with 11 floats, over 100 performers, and appearances by 30 Disney characters, including Duffy and Friends, Zootopia favorites, and stars from Encanto (2021).

The timing highlights the delicate balance between celebration and caution. With Typhoon Ragasa expected midweek, the park may once again have to pause or scale back its offerings. For a resort that has long faced financial and attendance challenges, weather disruptions remain a persistent obstacle.
