Disney Park’s Most Iconic Ride Closes Overnight

One Disney park has temporarily closed one of its most well-known attractions.

Ride closures are a constant at Disney. Attractions may pause for weeks at a time without much advance notice, especially when the work is considered routine.

These closures tend to attract more attention when they affect rides that exist nowhere else. That is especially true when an attraction represents a full replacement for a classic Disney experience rather than a direct copy.

That is now the case at one international Disney resort.

A Legacy Built on Reinvention

Haunted Mansion first opened in 1969 at Disneyland, offering a mix of gothic imagery and tongue-in-cheek humor that set it apart from traditional haunted house attractions. Its 999 happy haunts quickly became one of Disney’s most recognizable creative concepts.

The attraction expanded to Walt Disney World and other resorts, but rarely in identical form. Each version has been adapted to fit its park’s layout, storytelling priorities, and surrounding land.

At Walt Disney World, Haunted Mansion features a longer ride layout and an extended graveyard sequence. Its stately exterior reflects Liberty Square’s colonial theming rather than Disneyland’s New Orleans–inspired design.

Disneyland Paris pushed the concept further. Phantom Manor is woven into Frontierland and tied directly to the fictional town of Thunder Mesa. Its story is more explicit and more tragic, with a darker tone that reshaped how guests experience the ride.

These international variations showed Disney’s willingness to reinterpret Haunted Mansion rather than simply replicate it. That approach reached its most extreme form in Hong Kong.

At Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney chose not to build Haunted Mansion at all. Instead, the park debuted Mystic Manor, an attraction built on a completely different premise.

Mystic Manor replaces ghosts with enchanted artifacts and removes the familiar Haunted Mansion structure entirely. The attraction centers on Lord Henry Mystic, an adventurer whose home doubles as a museum for mysterious objects collected around the world.

The ride uses a trackless system and relies heavily on detailed sets and practical effects. Since opening, it has often been cited as one of the park’s most impressive attractions and a standout among Disney’s modern dark rides.

Mystic Manor Temporarily Closes

As of today, Mystic Manor is closed to all guests.

According to the Hong Kong Disneyland website, the attraction is suspended from February 24 to March 9, 2026. The park has attributed the closure to ā€œoperational adjustments.ā€

No additional information has been shared about the nature of those adjustments. The relatively short duration suggests routine maintenance rather than a refurbishment or creative overhaul.

During the closure, guests will be unable to experience the ride’s central narrative, which is driven by Albert, Lord Henry Mystic’s companion and the source of the attraction’s chaos.

The park’s official description explains Albert’s role in the story:

During an expedition, Lord Henry Mystic discovered a young monkey entangled in the web of a monstrous spider. He rescued the monkey and named him Albert. Taken with Albert and the tropical locale, Lord Henry decided to stay—christening the area Mystic Point and his home Mystic Manor.

Mystic Manor was built as a museum for the growing collection of art and artifacts gathered by members of Lord Henry’s team, the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.). And Albert, the foundling monkey, has become a key player in the life of Lord Henry, accompanying him on his adventures and charming members of the S.E.A. with his mischievous nature.

Mystic Manor is not the only major attraction currently unavailable at the park. Hyperspace Mountain — the Star Wars-themed version of Space Mountain located in Tomorrowland — is also closed as of today.

That attraction is expected to remain shuttered until late April 2026, limiting access to two of the park’s headline rides during the spring season.

Despite the temporary nature of the closure, Mystic Manor’s absence is notable. The attraction has long been regarded as a defining feature of Hong Kong Disneyland and a clear example of how Disney adapts its legacy concepts for different markets.
