Disney Officially Pulls Magic Kingdom’s Iconic Fireworks From Final December Calendar

Disney World guests hoping to end the year with Happily Ever After may need to rethink their plans. Magic Kingdom has confirmed a temporary fireworks replacement for the final two nights of December, giving holiday visitors a different way to celebrate.

The change affects one of the park’s most popular nighttime traditions, but it doesn’t mean fireworks are going away. In fact, Walt Disney World has several special presentations planned as guests prepare to welcome 2027.

Happily Ever After Fireworks Replaced

Happily Ever After has become a familiar part of evenings at Magic Kingdom. The spectacular brings together fireworks, lasers, Disney music, and colorful projections on Cinderella Castle, drawing crowds to Main Street, U.S.A., and the castle hub.

The show returned in April 2023 and typically appears on the entertainment calendar during regular park nights.

But the final two nights of December won’t follow that usual routine. Disney has confirmed that Happily Ever After will temporarily be removed from the schedule on December 30 and 31, while Magic Kingdom presents a New Year’s celebration instead.

Anyone hoping to watch it should check the entertainment calendar before deciding which day to visit.

Magic Kingdom Brings Back a New Year’s Favorite

In place of Happily Ever After, Magic Kingdom will present Fantasy in the Sky, a fireworks show associated with the park’s New Year’s festivities.

Rather than focusing on the familiar music and castle projections of Happily Ever After, this presentation celebrates the arrival of a new year with fireworks across the sky around Cinderella Castle.

Disney has scheduled Fantasy in the Sky twice per evening on both December 30 and December 31. Performances are listed for 6:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m., giving guests four opportunities across the two dates.

The schedule offers some flexibility. Families with small children can choose the earlier performance instead of staying out until midnight. Meanwhile, guests who want the late-night atmosphere can attend the 11:50 p.m. show.

December 30 may also appeal to visitors who would rather avoid the biggest crowds associated with New Year’s Eve itself. Both nights feature the same scheduled performances, so guests don’t have to wait until December 31 to see Fantasy in the Sky.

Most importantly, the change is temporary. Disney isn’t announcing the permanent end of Happily Ever After.

Hollywood Studios Gets Its Own Countdown

Guests don’t have to spend New Year’s Eve at Magic Kingdom to watch fireworks. Disney’s Hollywood Studios also has a special presentation scheduled for December 31.

New Year Countdown Fireworks will begin at 11:57 p.m., just ahead of midnight. That gives visitors staying at Hollywood Studios a chance to welcome 2027 without having to travel to another park for the celebration.

Still, visiting multiple parks around midnight could prove difficult due to holiday crowds, transportation delays, and potential capacity restrictions.

EPCOT Offers Two Fireworks Experiences

EPCOT has its own plans for December 31, with two nighttime presentations scheduled around World Showcase Lagoon.

First, Luminous The Symphony of Us will take place at 6:30 p.m., earlier than its usual evening performance. That gives visitors a chance to enjoy EPCOT’s regular spectacular before the park turns its attention to the new year.

Then, at 11:54 p.m., Cheers to the New Year: A Sparkling Celebration will begin. The special fireworks presentation leads guests into midnight and offers an alternative to Magic Kingdom’s celebration.

With Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT all offering nighttime entertainment, visitors have several ways to welcome 2027.

Plan Ahead for the Holiday Crowds

New Year’s Eve can bring enormous crowds to Disney World, particularly around popular fireworks viewing areas. Guests should choose their viewing spots early, allow extra travel time, and expect busy exits after midnight.

At Magic Kingdom, Main Street, U.S.A., and the castle hub remain popular gathering places. At EPCOT, visitors often line up around World Showcase Lagoon.

It’s also worth checking My Disney Experience for schedule updates. Weather can affect outdoor shows, and posted performance times may change.

Although Happily Ever After won’t be part of Magic Kingdom’s final two nights of December, Disney’s replacement gives guests a different way to close out the year. The key is knowing the schedule before arriving, especially if one particular fireworks show is a priority.
