Disney Announces New Baby Yoda Movie

Disney has recently announced a new film going into production this year. What is it? A Star Wars film titled The Mandalorian and Grogu.

This movie will be the first time Disney and Lucasfilm are putting characters from The Mandalorian into a full-length feature film. The new Star Wars movie will be released in theaters and is currently being directed by Jon Favreau.

For those unaware, Jon Favreau has been the executive producer on the Star Wars Disney+ shows Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett. Although the reception of these Star Wars shows have been mixed, he remains a highly respected producer and director due to his large body of work and knowledge of the franchise.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Jon Favreau said. “The prospect of bringing The Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Grogu is the name of the adorable creature from The Mandalorian who was once known simply as “Baby Yoda.”

The Crew And Details

Other details regarding the project are sparse at the moment. It’s also possible that Disney and Lucasfilm decided to release this news about the new movie to distract from the current controversy surrounding the upcoming film being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni. Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni are also big names in the Star Wars world. Although, many of their contributions or decisions have been debated among fandom as well.

This movie appears to also be the first major motion picture under Star Wars to have much momentum since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Separate from the Star Wars universe, he has also served as executive producer in many MCU films, including Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Avengers (2012), and the three Iron Man movies.
