Disney Parks See Drop in Attendance as Hundreds Stay Away Post Warning

A warning about crowds at the parks seems to have been entirely too successful, leading to a practically empty Disney World during peak season.

Over the last few months, one of the most common debates about the Disney Parks has centered around the subject of crowds at the parks. Over the last year, despite the fact that the Walt Disney Company’s Parks, Experiences, and Products section has been its most profitable, the parks have suffered lower attendance rates.

Even Disney CEO Bob Iger admitted as much. However, there have also been multiple days where the parks have been beyond packed, and attraction wait times have gone upwards of eight hours.

In what ended up working out as a crowd management tactic, a warning issued by Orlando International Airport (MCO) of anticipated crowds for the spring break season seems to have resulted in guests staying away from the parks.

The airport made clear to its many travelers that due to a hectic spring break season, they were expecting upwards of 7 million people to go through the airport.

What does this have to do with Disney?

Well, any theme park local from either state will be the first to tell you that avoiding the parks during peak season is a simple strategy to make sure you can still enjoy your time there. Whether it’s Disneyland locals avoiding the Disney Park during Superbowl Sunday or Florida locals staying away during spring break.

In line with this logic, it appears that the fear of being faced with massive crowds meant encouraged enough people to stay away, such that Disney World looked practically empty, recently.

Disney fan Drew (@DrewDisneyDude) shared a video of this “empty” Disney World. Drew wrote, “It’s a beautiful day at Magic Kingdom Park, and Main Street, U.S.A. is EMPTY. This is the quietest I’ve seen the park in as long as I can remember.”

Drew even clarified in the thread that the video was taken at 4:39 p.m.

But this wasn’t all. In addition, the shockingly low wait times for attractions corroborate this as well. As you can see in these screenshots, even some of the most popular attractions only have 30 to 45-minute wait times.

It is, of course, also important to acknowledge that currently, only Incredi-Pass Annual Passholders are able to enter Disney World’s parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Annual Passholder block-out dates are certainly an additional determining factor in the lack of crowds at Disney at the moment.

One thing is for certain, Disney is most definitely looking at ways to make sure they can present a solid front to the solution of overcrowding at the parks.
