Has Disney Lowered Its Drinking Age? Here’s the Truth

Every so often, the question arises of if and how Disney has modified its drinking age, and we’re here to provide an answer!

There are always rumors and questions that abound about Disney and its processes. For a brief period a couple of years ago, there was a thought going around that Disney World was going to remove Cinderella Castle. That’s not all. Some wondered if Disney was going to close Animal Kingdom Park permanently, and others wondered if Disney was going to remove seatbelts on Tower of Terror.

Today, it turns out folk are questioning what Disney’s drinking age is, and we at Disney Fanatic are here to give you the answer.

What is Disney’s Drinking Age?

Let’s answer this question right off the bat because, to some, it might seem like an obvious one.

At both the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort that are in the United States, the country has set the legal drinking age to 21 years. Seeing as the Disney Resorts are mandated to comply with that. Simply put, contrary to wishful thinking, you have to be 21 years old to drink, even at Disney.

What About the Disney Cruise Line?

Ah, now here’s where things get interesting. It always comes down to legalities.

The Disney Cruise Line not only services different countries in the world, but it also has itineraries that begin in different countries all over the world. So, what rules does Disney follow there?

Well, as DCL answered themselves, typically, “The drinking age on board is 21, and a valid photo I.D. is required.”

However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For “round-trip cruises departing from any European country that has a lower drinking age,” parents or guardians are allowed to sign a Beverage Consent Form that allows their 18- to 20-year-old children to drink on board.

And, for round trips from Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, and Brisbane, Disney Cruise Line guests who are 18 years and older are allowed to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages without parental consent.

Why Are People Confused About This?

There were some rumors going around in September 2023 that Disney World had modified its drinking age. However, those rumors proved to be wholly false.

Perhaps it’s a resurgence of that rumor, or perhaps for some, it’s a genuine question, seeing as the drinking age is dependent on local laws.

Regardless, there you have it! That’s what you need to know about Disney’s drinking age.
