Disney Dress Code Debate: Guest Shares Outfit That Got Her Kicked Out of Park

A Disneyland Resort guest recently reignited the online conversation about the Disney dress code after she was stopped at park entry for wearing a potentially dangerous article of clothing. The woman shared her experience in a short video on TikTok.

Theme park attire rules first went viral in 2022, when a TikToker amassed millions of views encouraging people to intentionally violate the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort dress code policies to get free clothing. Before the trend went viral, Disney cast members occasionally gifted guests complimentary t-shirts so they didn’t have to return to their hotels or purchase new clothing.

The dress code trend forever changed Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, as both parks cracked down on cast members offering free clothing to guests. Now, Disney Park guests without alternative clothing options must either buy something at the park or return to their hotels to change.

On June 3, TikTok user Milana Sofia (@milanasofiae) shared a video of herself outside the entrance to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. “Just got dress coded at Disney,” the guest wrote, showing off her outfit.

Social media users were surprised that such a normal outfit violated the Disney dress code.

“There’s actually no way,” @alex_mendonsa commented.

“How and why did u get dressed coded at Disneyland?!” @bluemoon2484 asked.

Disneyland Resort’s dress code prohibits costumes and non-medical masks worn by guests 14 and up; “clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics;” “excessively torn clothing or loose fitting clothing which may drag on the ground and create a potential trip hazard;” “clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment;” bare feet; and “visible tattoos that could be considered inappropriate, such as those containing objectionable language or designs.”

At a glance, Milana Sofia’s outfit doesn’t violate any of these dress code policies. However, the rules also state that the list isn’t exhaustive, so some guests may be stopped even if they’ve thoroughly studied the attire policies.

Historically, security has refused entry to guests wearing tube tops or tie-neck shirts because of the risk that they’ll come undone or loosen on intense thrill rides. This is likely the reason the TikToker’s outfit violated the dress code. Disney Park guests are encouraged to wear shirts with fully attached straps to avoid similar delays.

Should Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort update their dress code policies? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

  1. It seems like a lot of these TikTok’ers TRY to get dressed rather than make videos to make it look like there was no reason for it. I am sure she was not wearing the sweater at the time, and the tube top she was wearing was white and most likely see-through. While did did not like it in the camera, she was pretty much topless.

Cast members are young and have common sense. They don’t “dress code” someone just for the whim. If anything they let a lot of them go.

  2. I would like to see CMs given more authority to prohibit a few things. I’m pretty liberal, and don’t view a lot of clothing as objectionable, even if it’s not to my taste. I do wish, however, that the trend of girls and women wearing shorts that expose half their butt cheeks would result in them being asked to leave and return in something less revealing. It’s beyond tacky.
As for this person, I’d like to see what she actually appeared in; I agree that the sweater (in Socal summer, lol) was part of the original outfit. I was around when tube tops first appeared, and thought they were kinda awful then. They haven’t improved over time.
