Disney Parks Face Pressure for Stricter Dress Code Enforcement From Guests

A recent Disneyland Resort guest’s shirt reignited a years-long debate about the Southern California Disney park’s dress code policies.
The Current Dress Code at Disney Parks

Disney Parks maintain a dress code that aligns with the company’s family-friendly environment. Prohibited attire includes:
-
Costumes may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older
-
Masks may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older (unless they are for medical purposes)
-
Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
-
Excessively torn clothing or loose fitting clothing which may drag on the ground and create a potential trip hazard
-
Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
-
Clothing with multiple layers are subject to search upon entry
-
Visible tattoos that could be considered inappropriate, such as those containing objectionable language or designs
-
Bare feet
Dress code enforcement is left up to the front entrance and security cast members, who can refuse entry to guests wearing anything they deem to interrupt normal theme park operations.
Guest Experiences and Dress Code Violations

In 2022, the Disney dress code went viral when TikTokers encouraged intentionally wearing prohibited clothing to get a free t-shirt voucher. Disney cast members would occasionally gift free clothing to guests so they didn’t have to return to their Disney Resort hotel rooms or purchase an unwanted souvenir.
After months of online uproar at guests taking advantage of the system, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort stopped giving complimentary clothing to “dress-coded” guests.
Calls for Policy Revisions

More than two years later, a man in an “I ❤️ Boobs” shirt reignited conversations about Disneyland Resort’s dress code. u/LisayaMani posted about the guest’s clothing choice on Reddit:
“What in the world would possess someone to wake up and think, ‘Hey! I’m going to Disneyland today. A place full of families and kids…I got the perfect shirt for this!’”
Some Disney Parks fans agreed that the dress code should prohibit similar shirts.
“Disney used to have standards,” u/PlaneLocksmith6714 commented.

“I saw a guy wearing “I ❤️ the ‘d” in the Disney Font,” u/DRD7989 replied.
Others felt Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort shouldn’t have such strict control over guests’ attire.
“It’s not the end of the world,” said u/ImpTheShmuck.

“Much better than some stupid AR-15 fetish shirt,” u/sundogmooinpuppy agreed.
