Disney Deepens Latin America Footprint With New Colombia Expansion

The Walt Disney Company is advancing its international expansion efforts with a confirmed move into the Colombian market. The announcement arrives amid a broader multi-year strategy to expand access to Disney parks and the Disney Cruise Line worldwide.

Disney previously outlined a $60 billion investment plan for attractions, resort developments, and cruise capacity. The strategy seeks to strengthen regional reach and meet rising global demand for branded family travel.

At Walt Disney World Resort, Imagineering continues developing the Tropical Americas area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, replacing DinoLand U.S.A. with environments inspired by Latin America. Encanto and Indiana Jones are expected to feature prominently in the transformation.

Disneyland Resort is also expanding. A Coco-themed attraction is in development, and Avengers Campus will gain two new attractions: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. Robert Downey Jr. is expected to reprise Tony Stark for the latter.

Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris is also in the midst of a significant transformation. The park is developing a new lake and promenade area, alongside a Frozen-themed land that will introduce Arendelle to the resort. The changes are intended to rebalance the park, long considered the runt of the Disney park litter.

Disney Cruise Line is undergoing parallel expansion. The Disney Destiny will join the fleet this year. The Disney Adventure is now scheduled to enter service in 2026 following a revised launch timeline. These ships are central to Disney’s effort to increase global cruise capacity.

Disney Pushes Ahead With Promising New Colombia Expansion

Disney Cruise Line will establish its first physical offices in Colombia, located in Bogotá and Medellín. The company is partnering with Colombian travel agency Deluxe Travel to operate the locations and support regional cruise sales.

Company leadership indicates that the plan has been under consideration for several years. Implementation accelerated as outbound tourism from Colombia rose and interest in premium cruise experiences increased among Colombian families and multi-generational travel groups.

The new offices will provide in-person, Spanish-language assistance for travellers. Staff will advise on itineraries, cabin categories, family accommodation needs, seasonal sailing schedules, and onboard activities. The goal is to simplify bookings previously handled through international channels.

Colombia’s tourism infrastructure has expanded in recent years. Cartagena, in particular, has seen increased cruise ship activity tied to Caribbean and Panama Canal itineraries. Disney Cruise Line currently includes Cartagena on Panama Canal cruises departing from San Diego and Galveston.

Industry analysts note that local representation is a strategic advantage. Working directly with Colombian travel agencies and tour operators allows Disney to create a more consistent pipeline of travellers and build familiarity with cruise-based tourism.

Longer-Term Strategy Focuses on Regional Integration

Disney’s physical presence in Colombia suggests a shift toward sustained engagement in Latin America rather than episodic marketing campaigns. The company appears to be positioning Colombia as a stable feeder market for cruise travel, fresh off quietly backing away from the Australia market, which had seemingly underperformed for the Disney Cruise Line.

The long-term objective is to expand access and build familiarity among travelers who may not have previously considered a cruise-focused vacation. The offices are expected to support not only bookings, but also general brand education and awareness.

Disney’s broader global expansion continues across multiple fronts, including park development, franchise integration, and cruise fleet increases. Regions with emerging middle-class travel markets are expected to play a larger role in Disney’s growth strategy over the next decade.
