Childless Adults Lobby for Toy Ban at Disney Parks

One of the most popular theme park toys sparked debate among Disneyland Resort fans on social media this week. The discussion began after a childless Disney Parks fan suggested that bubble wands should be banned at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.

It’s impossible to walk ten feet at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Park, or Disney California Adventure Park without seeing a sea of glistening bubbles. Bubble wands are the perfect combination of souvenirs and distractions for little ones; they can literally end tantrums with the press of a button!

Bubble wands and replacement bubble solution bottles are available throughout the Disney theme parks. They cost between $25 and $32 each, and the bubble solution is available for around $2. Large stores throughout Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort (most frequently at Disney Resort hotels) sell batteries if the lights and sound die out during your trip.

But if some fans had their way, bubbles wouldn’t fill the air at the Disney parks for much longer. This week, a Reddit post from u/blk_cali_bee advocating for the ban of bubble wands spurred intense discussion among Disney fans.

“I absolutely loathe walking through all the bubbles while at the park,” the user wrote. “I don’t like them touching my skin or floating around in front of my face. Yes, I realize that it is what it is. No, I don’t give people in the park grief about it.”

“Not everyone loves dealing with all those damn bubbles while enjoying the park,” they continued. “It’s even worse when it’s crowded, you are just trying to get through but end up being stuck behind a family with a kid in the stroller who is heavy-handed on the bubble maker.”

Beyond the obvious reality that bubble wands make the Disney theme parks thousands of dollars daily, fans shared numerous reasons the popular toys should stick around.

“I love walking through them and they make me smile,” u/burnheartmusic wrote. “Especially when a kid is so happy to be erupting with bubbles.”

“Personally, I’m a fan of the end-of-the-day moments of seeing a kid passed out in their stroller, holding the trigger of the bubble machine wide open ala Tony Montana in Scarface,” u/HuckleberryAromatic agreed. “It’s like they’re squeezing every last drop of fun out of the day.”

Even some guests who weren’t huge fans of bubble-filled air didn’t advocate banning bubble wands.

“I don’t really like the bubbles but also cannot find a reason to justify not letting others enjoy them,” said u/theLordSolar. “They’re not being blown by some kid’s breath and are produced by purchased machines so there’s no yuck factor. Kind of annoying, sure, but also kind of whimsical when they catch the lights at night. Ultimately they’re part of the (current) magic so the minor inconvenience seems so irrelevant.”

Still, some Disney Parks fans joined the campaign to end bubble wands.

“Bubble mixture stains clothes,” u/DairyFreeDisney argued.

“For people with glasses it’s really annoying,” said u/BookishBoarder.

The opponents of bubble wands weren’t just childless adults, either.

“I’m with you on this one!” u/Wren2188 replied. “I’m not a bubble fan. There has been so many shows where kids just point them directly towards us. Parents just let it happen. I have two kids and I don’t mind bubbles at home at all. But to just keep walking into them or have them directed towards you consistently is not magical in my opinion.”

  1. I’m sorry but I agree with banning bubble wands. They are annoying, parents do not watch the kids while they are annoying other people with them. I don’t think they should be selling them because these parents use the things as an excuse to not watch their kids. Watch your kids and have them enjoy the park the natural way, by riding the rides and enjoying the food, not by tormenting other guests with those horrific bubble wands. Ban them for good!

  2. While at the park I have no problem with the bubbles. They are a little annoying though. However I was in our hotel room and a child was playing with one outside our door and every time we went out the door a barage of bubbles came into our room. I didn’t appreciate that.
