Disney World Shocks Fans by Blocking Off Huge Section of Popular Resort

A beloved Disney World resort is getting a major facelift, but it’s coming at a cost—some areas are now completely closed to guests.

What’s Happening at the Contemporary Resort?

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of the most recognizable hotels in Walt Disney World. With its sleek, modern design and monorail gliding through the atrium, it has been a guest favorite since 1971. But keeping an iconic resort in top shape requires regular updates, and right now, parts of the property are being sealed off for refurbishment.

Disney has been working on an extensive renovation at Bay Lake Tower, the resort’s Disney Vacation Club (DVC) addition. Originally expected to last until September 2025, Disney has since shortened the timeline, with construction now scheduled to wrap up by summer 2025.

What Areas Are Blocked Off?

Guests staying at Bay Lake Tower will notice that sections of the south side of the building have already been completed, including floors 7 through 16. However, other areas remain under construction, which means:

  • Limited room availability – Not all rooms in Bay Lake Tower are open for booking.
  • Daytime construction noise – Guests may experience some disruption during the day.
  • Restricted access – Certain hallways and sections are closed off as Disney crews complete the refurbishment.

How Will This Affect Your Vacation?

For guests who were hoping for a quiet, uninterrupted stay, this refurbishment may cause some unexpected surprises. While Disney does its best to minimize the impact, construction projects of this scale can still lead to minor inconveniences like noise and detours around the resort.

That said, there’s a silver lining—some of the newly refurbished rooms are already open, and guests who request a south-facing room on a higher floor may be able to enjoy a fresh, upgraded stay.

Disney’s resorts are constantly evolving to provide the best guest experience possible, and while this project means temporary disruptions, it also ensures that Bay Lake Tower remains one of the most desirable resorts at Disney World.

If you’re planning a stay at Disney’s Contemporary Resort soon, be sure to check for updates and plan accordingly. The magic never stops at Disney World—even when construction gets in the way!
