Classic Disney Railroad To Close Temporarily Ahead of Exciting New Marvel Ride

One of the more classic attractions at a Disney park is about to take a temporary break. The closure, planned for June 11, is part of a larger project to bring a new Marvel-themed experience to the park. Though the railroad has been a familiar and beloved part of the park’s landscape, its pause signals a clear focus on expanding superhero adventures.
Since its opening in 2005, this Disney park has steadily evolved. Initially criticized for its smaller size and limited lineup, it has grown significantly, adding unique lands like Mystic Point, Grizzly Gulch, and World of Frozen. The park has worked hard to blend traditional Disney charm with local cultural influences, carving out its own identity in the global Disney family.

Temporary Closure of a Classic Disney Railroad Ride
On June 11, 2025, the park’s railroad attraction will close temporarily as construction begins on a new Spider-Man ride in the Marvel-themed section. This railroad is more than just a gentle tour; it’s a nod to Walt Disney’s original vision, with trains circling the park’s perimeter — a feature common to most Disney castle parks.
The new Spider-Man attraction will replace a cancelled Avengers Quinjet ride and join existing Marvel experiences such as the Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle!. The closure of the railroad is expected to last over a year as the park expands its Stark Expo area with this highly anticipated addition.
A Clear Shift Toward Franchise-Focused Expansion
This temporary railroad closure reflects a larger trend across Disney’s parks worldwide. The company is increasingly prioritizing rides and lands based on popular film franchises and intellectual properties. Classic attractions are being replaced or reimagined with experiences that tap into well-known stories and characters.

Similar transformations have taken place at other parks. Splash Mountain is now Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Anaheim and Orlando, and Florida’s Great Movie Ride made way for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. This Marvel expansion aligns with that pattern of blending familiar Disney nostalgia with blockbuster storytelling.
When this park opened, its smaller size and modest attraction roster limited its appeal. However, recent expansions and new lands have revitalized the park’s reputation and attendance. Focused investments in culturally tailored experiences have helped it rebound strongly, especially in the post-pandemic era.
As the railroad takes a pause, the park’s fans look forward to seeing how the new Spider-Man attraction will fit into the growing Marvel presence and continue the park’s upward momentum.
