Beloved Marvel Hero Being Replaced Before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Releases
Hollywood has no shortage of major blockbusters in 2026, but few feel as ambitious as Avengers: Doomsday. Set for release in December, the film is positioned as a soft reset. Marvel has released several short teasers tied to the film, confirming the return of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), and the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
It’s a lineup built on familiarity, with the likes of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor once again serving as some of the franchise’s most reliable anchors. But those characters are just a fraction of the extensive cast that’s been confirmed so far.
But while Marvel’s track record suggests financial success is likely, the studio is under pressure to prove that the modern superhero formula still resonates with audiences.
But while Marvel Studios is betting heavily on the upcoming crossover event to steady the MCU after years of uneven results, Amazon MGM Studios may be positioning He-Man as the foundation of something much bigger.
Six months before Doomsday hits theaters, Masters of the Universe will arrive with far fewer expectations—and potentially more room to grow. The film’s first full trailer premiered online on January 22, following a short teaser released January 21 that leaned heavily into the franchise’s retro roots.

Directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee), the movie stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, raised on Earth before discovering his Eternia heritage and transforming into He-Man after claiming the Sword of Power.
That’s where the Thor comparisons naturally come into play. Like Thor, He-Man is a mythic figure tied to destiny, ancient power, and a fantastical realm.
If Masters of the Universe connects with audiences this June, it may not just revive a classic franchise—it could launch a new cinematic universe altogether. Whether or not the film is a success remains to be seen, but if it is, sequels and spinoffs are likely, especially with decades of Mattel lore to draw from.
Masters of the Universe releases in theaters on June 5.
The film stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam Glenn/He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Keldor/Skeletor, Alison Brie as Professor Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, James Purefoy as King Randor, and Kristen Wiig as Roboto.
