Another Incident Reported on Disney’s “Offensive” Pirates of the Caribbean Ride
The Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Magic Kingdom Park made headlines again recently when a guest shared their experience evacuating the attraction after it abruptly shut down. For nearly an hour, dozens of riders were stuck onboard, waiting as Disney cast members managed the situation.
This isn’t the first time the Pirates of the Caribbean ride has sparked conversation. Over the years, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort have made several changes to the decades-old attraction. These include the addition of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) animatronics and modifications to the controversial bride auction scene. The female animatronics, once portrayed as brides-for-sale, have since been reimagined as independent pirates, reflecting a more culturally sensitive approach.

Despite these updates, debate continues among Disney Parks fans. Some argue that the changes sanitize the harsher realities of piracy too much, while others feel the ride hasn’t gone far enough in addressing problematic content.
Pirates of the Caribbean Controversy
In 2023, a woman went viral for expressing discomfort over the male pirate animatronics’ gaze during the ride.
“I just think this is kind of a weird ride,” she said. “I don’t know… It’s just a little bit rapey.”

Her comments sparked widespread discussion, with some women sharing feelings of violation and frustration. One commenter wrote that the pirates’ stares made her feel “violated,” while another said, “It feels like we’re the entertainment for them and I do not like it.”
Recent Ride Evacuation
On May 21, Reddit user u/Brandodude posted photos from their time trapped on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. After some time, Disney cast members switched on the overhead lights and powered down the animatronics, creating a quieter environment for the stranded guests.
Eventually, cast members donned waders and navigated the ride’s water to escort the boats backward to an emergency evacuation platform. Guests were then led through backstage areas before being safely returned to Adventureland.
“Saw a cool deer next to the raggedy porta potties out back,” the guest wrote.

As compensation for the unexpected delay, Disney cast members provided the evacuated guests with two Lightning Lane passes. Although these skip-the-line passes did not cover top-tier Magic Kingdom Park attractions like TRON Lightcycle / Run or Space Mountain, the guest described the experience positively: “It was cool to experience, I enjoyed. Always wanted to. Makes me want to take a tour! We got two fast passes for the trouble but mediocre ones not even for tron or space mountain or tianas.”
Walt Disney World Resort has not publicly commented on the cause of the evacuation. However, the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction eventually reopened and was functioning normally as of this article’s publication.
Have you ever gotten stuck on a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort attraction? We would love to hear about your experience in the comments!

People like this have ruiened Disney with their woke ways. Noting like it used t be. Disney just rolls over and lets the tail wag the Dog. My Family is done with Disney, Busch Gardens and Universal is our places now.
I agree with you! If you have a problem with a ride, then stay the heck off of it & let the rest of us who are not offended ride. I’m sick of the few ruining it for the majority of us.
What’s next? Are you going to protest all the “Pirates” movies. If you find something offensive in everything at Disney, don’t ride it. Move on. Quit trying to ruin everyone else’s fun. If it’s so offensive, why are the lines to get in so long?
Agree. Don’t like it. Don’t ride it. Very simple!!!
Disney Parks are not mandatory. It is a chose. If you find it offensive stay away. It a ride offense you, you are not required to ride it. You have choses. Your choses should not effect the chose of others.
It was nver deisgned to offend anyone it was designed to have fun. Once again I will say” Disney needs to ignor the few who are so negitive and complaine.” These people just want to distore anyone and anything that represent fun or fantasy. It is like a movie I may not like it but someone else may like it. That is my chose and choose not to go to that movie. It is not rocket sceince chose your battles. You don’t have the right to choose for me or anyone else. You have the right to make your decisions and yours alone. So, if you are so offended make the chose that is for you and not for me or anyone else.
Find a something that does not offend you spend your time there. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!! Because you will never find a perfect place or person that shares 100% of your opinions and so called values
Yo-hoho and a bottle of dumb! OK, so Disney is going to try and make 17th century Caribbean pirate life politically correct. Good luck with that. Maybe on all the rides that may have something controversial they should have a separate “Karens Only” line, one where the ride doesn’t actually move, they just get in, rock the boat a little and get out.
Grow up people. An animation icon can NOT LEER at you. If this bothers people stay home tucked nicely in your residence.
Pirates Of The Caribbean, It’s A Small World, it’s are RIDES & now real live people.
Some people just like to hear themselves talk even when no one wants to hear what they are saying.
Disney is a great way to forget about daily routines. Just enjoy it for what it is. FUN.
No one is staring at you in the rides. They are robots. People will stare at you if you dress funny and I’ve seen some sights when I go to Walt Disney World.
Don’t Worry, Be Happy
