After 6-Month Shutdown, Disney World Reopens Magic Kingdom Staple With Major Changes
Visitors heading into Storybook Circus this week will soon find a familiar Magic Kingdom destination back in action.
For nearly six months, Big Top Souvenirs has sat closed in Fantasyland, removing one of the area’s main places to shop and grab a sweet treat. Disney shut the location down in February, and guests have spent much of 2026 waiting to learn when they could finally step inside again.
That answer has arrived.
Walt Disney World has confirmed that Big Top Souvenirs will reopen on August 21, ending a closure that stretched through the spring and most of the summer. Disney is also giving guests an early taste of what they’ll find inside, including several Mickey and Dumbo-inspired treats.
The timing is notable because Big Top Souvenirs isn’t the only part of Magic Kingdom receiving attention. Major construction continues elsewhere as Disney updates longtime attractions and prepares entirely new areas for the future.

Big Top Souvenirs Closed Earlier This Year
Big Top Souvenirs isn’t a traditional Magic Kingdom gift shop. Its location and design help it blend into Storybook Circus, the Fantasyland area that also includes Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
The shop continues the circus theme inside, giving guests a place to browse Disney merchandise and pick up desserts and snacks.
That combination has made Big Top Souvenirs a convenient stop for families spending time in this section of the park. Guests can shop, grab a treat, or simply spend some time indoors before continuing through Fantasyland.
That experience disappeared when Disney closed Big Top Souvenirs on February 20, 2026.
What followed became a lengthy shutdown. The shop remained unavailable throughout the spring and most of the summer, bringing the closure to within a month of the six-month mark.
Disney has now confirmed that the wait is almost finished.
Disney Sets August 21 Reopening Date
Big Top Souvenirs will officially welcome Magic Kingdom guests back on August 21.
Along with confirming the reopening date, Disney has started teasing what visitors will find when the circus tent reopens. The company says guests can expect “sweet surprises and tasty treats.”
Disney hasn’t revealed everything planned for the returning location, but its preview makes one thing clear: desserts will remain an important part of the Big Top Souvenirs experience.
Several of the teased treats feature designs connected to Mickey Mouse and Dumbo, keeping them closely tied to the Disney and circus themes surrounding the shop.
And Disney has already provided a closer look at some of those offerings.

Disney Previews Treats Coming to Big Top Souvenirs
The teaser image includes several colorful desserts and snacks that guests can expect to find at the returning Magic Kingdom location.
Those items include:
- Mickey Churro Caramel Apple
- Dumbo Caramel Apple
- Dumbo Sandwich Cookie
- Marshmallow Pops
- Cupcakes
- Circus Chips
Caramel apples remain a major part of the teased lineup, including options themed to Mickey and Dumbo. Guests can also choose smaller desserts such as marshmallow pops and cupcakes.
The Circus Chips continue the carnival-inspired approach, while the Dumbo Sandwich Cookie ties directly into the nearby attraction.
Disney could have more planned beyond what appears in the teaser. Its promise of “sweet surprises and tasty treats” leaves room for additional offerings once Big Top Souvenirs officially reopens.

Magic Kingdom Remains in the Middle of Major Work
Big Top Souvenirs is returning while other parts of Magic Kingdom remain under construction.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is currently closed in Tomorrowland for a major update. Disney has announced new scenes, updated technology, and a new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic for the attraction. It is expected to reopen in 2027.
Even larger projects are taking shape elsewhere.
Disney permanently closed the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Bell Riverboat in 2025 as it prepares the area for Piston Peak National Park. Work is also moving forward on the future Villains-themed land beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Those projects will continue changing Magic Kingdom over the coming years, making the return of an established location like Big Top Souvenirs another part of the park’s ongoing transformation.

Storybook Circus Gets One Experience Back
After months without Big Top Souvenirs, Storybook Circus is finally getting the shop back.
Beginning August 21, guests will once again have an indoor location where they can browse Disney merchandise and choose from themed desserts while visiting this section of Fantasyland.
The reopening ends a shutdown that began on February 20 and lasted almost six months.
With Disney promising “sweet surprises and tasty treats,” guests won’t have to wait much longer to see exactly what awaits inside the reopened circus tent.
