A Private Company Is Taking Over an Entire Disney World Park on October 20
Some days at Walt Disney World, the schedule does the surprising. On October 20, 2026, Disney’s Hollywood Studios closes at 5:00 p.m., four hours before its usual October closing time, because of a private buyout. If your evening was built around that park, it’s time for a Plan B.
We’ve kept this report tied to its sources, and we’ll point out where those sources don’t line up. Here’s the schedule, the reason behind the early closure, the alternatives, and a few ideas for making the most of your day.
The Short Version
Hollywood Studios is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on October 20, with Early Entry from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. for Disney hotel guests. Its normal mid-October hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., so the park loses four hours. According to the report, a private buyout by Gartner is behind it.
What’s Behind the Buyout
Last week’s reminder connected the early closure to a private event associated with the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026, which runs from October 19 through October 22 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. It said Hollywood Studios would host an evening event from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., so regular guests must leave before it starts.
The conference website puts it this way: “Join us for our Special Event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park! From 8:00 to 11:00 p.m., we’ve reserved the entire park for you to enjoy entertainment, thrilling rides, and delicious food. This is a celebration you won’t want to miss, reserved just for you!”
A Note on the Words Being Used
Two terms appear in the reports. This week’s report calls it a “private buyout by Gartner.” Last week’s reminder calls it “a private event associated with the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026.” We’re using both phrases as written, and the information we have doesn’t spell out the arrangement beyond that.
The four-hour figure is simple arithmetic from the listed hours: a normal closing time of 9:00 p.m. and the October 20 closing time of 5:00 p.m. differ by four hours.
Two Start Times, One Closing Time
The sources differ on the event’s start. The report says 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and the conference website quote says 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. We aren’t resolving that, and the information we have doesn’t explain it. The consistent point is that the park closes to regular guests at 5:00 p.m. on October 20.
October 20 Park-by-Park Hours
As listed in the report:
- Magic Kingdom: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Early Entry 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
- Animal Kingdom: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Early Entry 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.; Extended Evening for resort guests 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- EPCOT: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Early Entry 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
- Blizzard Beach: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Typhoon Lagoon: closed on October 20.
Details Worth Double-Checking
One wording difference stands out. The report’s opening says Animal Kingdom’s Extended Evening hours are for Disney Deluxe resort guests, but the schedule lists “resort guests.” We’re repeating both as written. If you’re counting on Extended Evening, confirm the details in the official listing.
Hours can also change, so check the October 20 schedule in the official app before you go.
The Evening Alternatives
The report suggests that for a full evening out, EPCOT is the best alternative to Hollywood Studios. It stays open until 9:00 p.m. and is running normal hours on October 20.
Magic Kingdom’s listed closing time is later, at 10:00 p.m. Animal Kingdom closes at 6:00 p.m., with Extended Evening offered to resort guests until 8:00 p.m.
Squeezing In the Highlights
Last week’s reminder suggested prioritizing headline attractions earlier in the day, naming Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, especially for guests hoping to avoid long queues. It also suggested that guests could consider heading to another park after leaving, checking that park’s hours first.
These are the report’s suggestions and not promises about wait times. We don’t have information about how crowded the park will be on October 20.
Other Dates to Circle in October
According to last week’s reminder, Magic Kingdom has repeated early closures this month because of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party on select evenings. Guests without a separate party ticket must leave by 6 p.m. on multiple dates, including October 22, 23, and 25.
The reminder also says EPCOT will delay its opening to 10 a.m. on October 23 and 25 for Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. It notes that three of the four theme parks are affected by operating changes at some point this month, and it recommends checking the official calendar.
Same Park, Different Evenings
Compare two dates. On October 20, Magic Kingdom’s listed hours run until 10:00 p.m. On October 22, 23, and 25, guests without a separate party ticket must leave by 6 p.m. The same park can offer very different evenings, depending on the date.
The information we have doesn’t say how often private events trigger early closures, so we aren’t suggesting a pattern.
A Planning Reminder
Before locking in a plan, check the hours for your specific dates, and look at the other parks’ listings if one is closing early. Remember that some evening options, such as Extended Evening, are limited to certain guests, and that Early Entry at Hollywood Studios is listed for Disney hotel guests.
If your trip includes more than one park day, glance at the full week’s hours, not just the day you’re visiting. A change like on October 20 is easiest to handle when you know about it in advance and have a second park in mind.
