Disney’s Hollywood Studios has kept one of its most frequently interrupted attractions running, letting a scheduled closure date pass without the doors shutting.
Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie was set to begin a temporary closure at the Mickey Shorts Theater on October 28, 2026. That date has come and gone, and the show is still playing. Walt Disney World has also posted operating hours for this Hollywood Studios location well into the coming weeks, which suggests the planned downtime is off the calendar, at least for now.
A Closure That Never Arrived
The shutdown would have come only a month after Vacation Fun returned from a long absence in September. Disney never gave a reopening date or explained the pause, and it has been just as quiet about the reversal.
Published times show the theater staying open even after Disney Jollywood Nights begins at the park on November 7. It is not yet known whether the closure was canceled outright, pushed to a later date, or made unnecessary because Disney found another space for any related event operations.
The Jollywood Nights Connection
Many expected a repeat of last year. In late October 2025, Vacation Fun went dark so the theater’s exit area could become a merchandise space for Jollywood Nights. The show stayed closed until December 27, 2025.
This year’s event runs from November 7, 2026, through January 5, 2027, and the timing of the planned closure lined up neatly. Disney never confirmed, however, that the holiday event was the reason.
A Stop-and-Start 2026
The theater has spent a good part of this year doing something other than showing cartoons. It was offline from April 29 to May 7 for a Star Wars merchandise activation tied to May the Fourth. A longer closure followed from August 9 to September 26, when the space hosted a Kermit the Frog magnet distribution for Annual Passholders. Vacation Fun came back on September 27.
About the Show
Vacation Fun opened at the Mickey Shorts Theater in the park’s Echo Lake area in March 2020. The short follows Mickey and Minnie through original animation mixed with clips from classic Mickey Mouse cartoons. Guests can also pose with life-size recreations of Mickey’s world. It is a modest offering next to the park’s big thrill rides, but its seats and air conditioning make it a welcome break.
What Comes Next
Disney clearly values how flexible this theater is. Its record this year suggests the schedule could change again with little warning, especially once Jollywood Nights is underway. Guests should check hours in the My Disney Experience app or on the official Walt Disney World website on the day of their visit.
