Lucasfilm Reveals First Look at ‘Star Wars’ Reimagining Arriving in 2027
The Force is about to collide with some familiar Marvel superheroes as Star Wars approaches its 50th anniversary.
Lucasfilm and Marvel are marking the milestone with a crossover that revisits the events of A New Hope (1977), albeit with some rather unexpected additions to the galaxy far, far away.
The original film celebrates its 50th birthday in 2027, and Lucasfilm has several projects planned to commemorate the occasion. Among them are Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd, a Welsh-language version of the original movie set to debut on broadcaster S4C and its streaming platforms on Christmas Day, 2026, and Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy, an exhibition opening at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute in February 2027.
A New Hope itself is also returning to theaters for a limited engagement beginning February 19.

Luke Skywalker Meets Spider-Man in New Star Wars Preview
One of the more unusual anniversary releases is Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a six-issue series that brings characters from both franchises together in Marvel’s Earth-616 universe.
The story features Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Obi-Wan Kenobi alongside Marvel favorites, including Spider-Man and the Avengers. Meanwhile, Darth Vader and Doctor Doom find common ground as they form a deadly alliance.
Now, Marvel.com has shared a first look at the in-comic artwork, following the earlier reveal of a connecting cover featuring characters from both universes. The preview includes Marvel heroes such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor confronting stormtroopers. Additional cover variants include Luke teaming up Spider-Man and Vader sporting the Infinity Gauntlet.

The crossover also plays with the idea that Star Wars is a movie within Marvel’s world. In one panel, Captain America asks Ben Grimm, better known as the Thing, about the stormtroopers: “They got a name for these canned hams in the Star Wars movie?”
Kevin Smith is writing Hope Assembles, with David Marquez handling the artwork. The series launches in January 2027, five decades after Marvel published its first Star Wars comic in the same year that A New Hope arrived in theaters.
The anniversary lineup also includes Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take, a comic that retells the original film’s events from Luke, Leia, and Han’s respective perspectives.
