New Disney Attraction Hits Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, Fans Are Collecting

Most new things at Walt Disney World arrive with a countdown. Construction walls go up. Concept art leaks. Fans argue about it for two years before anyone rides anything. This one just appeared in a gift shop in Tomorrowland.

There is a new addition in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, and it is not going to pull guests away from the coaster next door. But for collectors, it might be the best five dollars in the park right now. A TRON Lightcycle Run pressed penny machine has landed, loaded with eight designs.

If pressed pennies are not your thing yet, stick around. They have one of the most loyal followings on property, and they cost less than a churro.

Where It Is In Tomorrowland

Tomorrowland Launch Depot, inside Magic Kingdom.

That placement is intentional. The shop sits right by TRON Lightcycle Run, and the machine has been styled to match, pulling from both the attraction and the film. It looks like it belongs there instead of like a generic press wheeled into a themed land.

The Eight Tomorrowland Designs

All eight are themed to TRON.

Four show characters riding Lightcycles: Mickey, Goofy, Minnie, and Donald.

Three show characters in TRON outfits playing with discs: Pluto, Goofy, and Mickey.

The last one is Stitch, solo, in a TRON outfit.

Every penny reads “Tomorrowland” across the bottom, which ties the whole set together.

Bet on the Stitch one going fast. Stitch merch moves at Walt Disney World no matter what it is attached to, and a TRON crossover is going straight onto collectors’ lists.

What It Costs

One dollar per penny. Five dollars for all eight.

That is the entire pitch. Disney describes its coin presses as easy, fun, and inexpensive, and calls the results a souvenir that is as cost-effective as it is unforgettable. Hard to argue at this price.

For parents looking to hand a kid a souvenir without touching the real merchandise budget, this is one of the better deals in Magic Kingdom.

TRON Lightcycle Run puts you on your own Lightcycle for a race across the Grid, the dark computerized world with no horizons from TRON. You join Team Blue, race the Grid’s most menacing Programs, and try to clear eight Energy Gates to lock in the win. It is one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park worldwide.

The history runs deeper than most guests know. TRON came out in 1982 and made filmmaking history as the first production to mix live action with computer-generated visuals and backlit animation. It went on to spawn video games, comic books, an animated series, the 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy, and eventually this ride.
