Served in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom and several other locations across Walt Disney World, the frozen pineapple treat has earned a reputation that extends well beyond Disney fans. It has become one of the resort’s signature snacks thanks to its refreshing flavor and straightforward presentation.

Over time, Disney has experimented with different flavors, specialty sundaes, floats, and seasonal offerings built around the original recipe. Despite all those additions, plenty of guests continue to believe nothing beats the classic pineapple version served in its simplest form.

Disney Keeps Finding New Ways to Reinvent DOLE Whip

That traditional version remains available, but Disney has clearly shifted its attention toward creating new experiences around the dessert.

Instead of focusing solely on the original pineapple swirl, menus now regularly feature combinations that include cakes, fruit fillings, crunchy toppings, specialty sauces, and other ingredients designed to give guests something different to try.

It’s a strategy Disney has used successfully throughout its food program. Limited-time menu items often encourage guests to return for another visit while creating excitement online as fans share photos of the latest creations.

At the same time, some longtime visitors feel the original DOLE Whip doesn’t receive the same attention it once did. Rather than allowing the classic snack to remain the centerpiece, Disney continues introducing increasingly elaborate variations that appeal to guests looking for something new.

The original dessert still holds its place on menus, but it now shares the spotlight with creations that look very different from the pineapple soft serve that first became famous.

Disney Marks a Major Milestone With New DOLE Whip Creations

This year also marks 50 years of collaboration between Disney and DOLE, giving the company another reason to introduce fresh menu offerings.

To celebrate both DOLE Whip Day and the anniversary, Disney rolled out three specialty desserts across Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World.

At Disneyland Park, Tropical Hideaway now serves the Hoa Aloha Float. The dessert starts with pineapple DOLE Whip, then adds cucumber-lime agua fresca, chamoy, and candied kiwi for a much more adventurous flavor combination than the traditional recipe.

Guests can also pick up the Swirl Up Some Magic souvenir cup at Tropical Hideaway and Tiki Juice Bar while supplies last. Disney has expanded availability to select Walt Disney World locations as well, giving guests on both coasts an opportunity to collect the commemorative cup.

Walt Disney World received two limited-time peach-inspired desserts. Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort now offers the DOLE Whip Peach with Streusel Crisp, combining peach DOLE Whip with peaches and crunchy streusel inside a waffle cup.

Meanwhile, Lottawatta Lodge at Blizzard Beach serves the DOLE Whip Peach with Streusel Cobbler Sundae, which layers peach DOLE Whip with vanilla cake, peach filling, and streusel for a richer dessert.

Together, these additions continue Disney’s long-running habit of building inventive new menu items around its classic frozen treat.

Some Fans Still Prefer the Original

Not everyone believes a classic needs constant reinvention.

One reason DOLE Whip became such a Disney staple is that it never relied on complicated ingredients. A simple cup of pineapple soft serve was enough to cool guests down during a hot Florida afternoon, and that straightforward approach helped make it one of the resort’s most recognizable snacks.

As Disney continues to introduce more elaborate versions, some fans question whether the company is paying too much attention to specialty creations rather than to the dessert that earned its reputation over several decades.

Even so, the original pineapple DOLE Whip remains available, and Disney has not indicated that it plans to remove it. The expanding lineup simply gives guests more choices than ever before.
