Disney World Breaks Status Quo, Overhauls Lightning Lane Rules for Multiple Iconic Rides This Summer

Disney World guests planning summer vacations in 2026 may want to pay close attention to Lightning Lane before arriving at the parks. Disney is not completely overhauling the system, but several new additions and attraction updates are about to change how guests prioritize reservations throughout the day.

Lightning Lane has been part of the Disney World experience for five years, and while some fans still miss FastPass+, Disney continues to lean heavily into the paid reservation system. With new entertainment, refreshed rides, and growing crowds expected this summer, the company is adjusting the lineup across multiple parks.

Lightning Lane Continues Expanding

Disney currently operates Lightning Lane using two paid options: Multi Pass and Single Pass. Multi Pass allows guests to reserve several attractions throughout the day, while Single Pass works for select high-demand rides that require separate purchases.

The system adjusts pricing based on crowd levels, so summer visitors often see some of the year’s highest costs. Resort hotel guests continue to receive earlier booking access than off-property visitors.

Now, Disney is updating which attractions fall under each category.

EPCOT Brings Back a Fan Favorite

One of the most interesting changes arriving this summer involves EPCOT’s returning version of Soarin’.

Disney confirmed that Soarin’ Across America will officially join Lightning Lane Multi Pass as a Tier 2 attraction beginning May 26. The updated ride is a part of Disney’s America 250 celebration and is already generating excitement among longtime fans.

Many guests never fully embraced Soarin’ Around the World, especially those who preferred the original California-style experience. Because of that nostalgia factor, Disney likely expects demand to rise quickly once the attraction returns.

That could make securing a Lightning Lane reservation much more competitive at EPCOT throughout the summer season.

Hollywood Studios Gets the Biggest Changes

While EPCOT is gaining attention, Disney’s Hollywood Studios may see the biggest Lightning Lane impact overall.

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets will officially join the Tier 1 Lightning Lane Multi Pass lineup once the attraction opens to the public on May 26, 2026. Disney clearly expects heavy demand for the updated coaster, especially with Electric Mayhem taking over the experience.

The attraction has traditionally carried long standby waits, and many guests will likely rush to reserve it early each morning.

At the same time, Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! will become a Tier 2 Multi Pass offering. The new stage show is designed for younger families, and Disney appears focused on making it easier for parents to navigate Hollywood Studios during crowded summer afternoons.

Star Wars Attractions Could Become Harder To Reserve

Another major change arriving at Hollywood Studios centers around Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

The attraction will remain a Tier 1 Multi Pass selection, but Disney’s major updates tied to The Mandalorian & Grogu(2026) could dramatically increase demand.

Disney is adding new missions, updated storylines, and expanded interactive elements, including upgraded engineer controls that give guests more influence over the attraction experience. The company appears to want riders to return multiple times rather than viewing the attraction as a one-time experience.

That strategy could make Lightning Lane reservations much harder to secure throughout the summer, especially inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, where crowd levels already shift constantly depending on attraction reliability and entertainment offerings.

Prices Continue Climbing

Alongside these attraction changes, Lightning Lane prices are also continuing to rise.

Magic Kingdom Multi Pass pricing is now reaching around $45 per person during peak periods, while the other parks generally fall between $32 and $39, depending on projected demand.

For larger families, those costs can add up quickly across multiple vacation days.

Disney Isn’t Done Adjusting Lightning Lane

Summer 2026 proves Disney still sees Lightning Lane as a major part of the Walt Disney World experience moving forward.

The overall system remains familiar, but Disney continues adjusting attraction tiers, reservation demand, and pricing as new experiences arrive across the resort.

For many guests, planning the perfect Disney day may become even more competitive once summer crowds fully arrive.
