Update: Disney World Keeps Liberty Belle Afloat
Walt Disney World has never been static. Attractions come and go, areas are reimagined, and entire sections of the park transform in ways that would have been unimaginable when Magic Kingdom first opened in 1971.
The changes are often bittersweet for longtime fans. Each new expansion brings exciting opportunities, but nostalgia remains strong for the many rides and experiences lost along the way. That balance between innovation and memory is once again in the spotlight.

Like all Disney parks, Magic Kingdom has retired attractions to make way for new concepts. Generations of visitors once experienced Mr. Toadās Wild Ride, Snow Whiteās Scary Adventures, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, only to see each close in the name of progress. More recently, Stitchās Great Escape shuttered its doors, joining the list of attractions preserved only in photographs and fond recollections.
The End of an Era on the Rivers of America
This year marked another major shift. Both Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America closed in July, altering the landscape of Frontierland and Liberty Square.
Tom Sawyer Island offered a quiet respite, where guests could wander caves, explore rustic hideouts, and cross suspension bridges inspired by Mark Twainās stories. Its neighbor, the Rivers of America, served as a picturesque setting for both Liberty Square and Frontierland. The Liberty Belle riverboat was the star, carrying guests on tranquil cruises through the heart of Magic Kingdom.

The closure was tied to Disneyās plans for the future. The company has already begun transforming the area to accommodate Cars Land and, further along the line, an expansive new section inspired by Disney Villains. Both additions are years away from opening, but demolition has been swift. The Rivers of America have gradually been drained, and the Tom Sawyer Island rafts removed.
Beyond Magic Kingdom, Disney has mapped out a slate of changes across Walt Disney World in the coming years. New attractions themed to Indiana Jones, Encanto, Monsters, Inc., and more are on the way as part of Disney’s multi-billion investment into its theme parks worldwide.
It wasnāt long before rumors spread that the Liberty Belle itself had been dismantled. For fans, the speculation added to the sadness of seeing such a recognizable piece of Magic Kingdom seemingly erased overnight.

Liberty Belleās Fate Revealed
Recent images, however, have told a different story. Shared online by @bioreconstruct, they reveal the Liberty Belle intact at a backstage dock area. Far from being destroyed, the riverboat is in storage, sparking new speculation about its future role.

What Disney intends to do with the vessel remains unclear. Some fans have floated creative possibilities, including repurposing it as transportation across Bay Lake. In that scenario, the Liberty Belle could ferry guests between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom, adding a new layer of utility to the iconic steamboat.
Others suggest it could move to Disneyās Hollywood Studios, where it could replace the Fantasmic! finale boat. That vessel has faced criticism from fans who argue it doesnāt live up to the grandeur of the nighttime spectacular. Bringing the Liberty Belle into the mix would undoubtedly provide a more visually striking moment.

Both ideas, however, remain speculative. As with many Disney rumors, itās just as likely the Liberty Belle may stay in storage until Disney decides whether to preserve it as part of the resortās history or quietly retire it altogether.
For now, its survival offers reassurance to fans concerned about its sudden disappearance. In a park that thrives on reinvention, the Liberty Belle represents a tangible connection to Disneyās past.
