5 to Skip, 5 Not To Miss- Breaking Down Disney’s Hollywood Studios Attractions

Continuing with our series, we are looking at five attractions not to miss in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and five attractions to skip.  We previously looked at our five to skip and five not to miss in all of Walt Disney World (see it HERE) as well as specifically Magic Kingdom (HERE).

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the Disney Park that has gone through the most transformation over the last few years.  With the addition of Toy Story Land as well as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, this once half-day Disney Park is now second only to Magic Kingdom.

Come along with us as we venture into the movies and see what we skip when in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and what we can’t miss.

First of all, we are going to start with those attractions we tend to skip when visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  These are terrible experiences, but we feel like there are better ones we should be doing first.

Alien Swirling Saucers- Toy Story Land

The first ride we skip almost every time we are in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is Alien Swirling Saucers.  On this ride Guests are spun around with the aliens from Toy Story.

We find the ride adorable with the cute aliens and it is beautiful at night, but the overall idea for the ride isn’t interesting to us.  Guests are swirled around both in their individual saucers as well as around the overall ride space.

Even though we didn’t get too dizzy when we rode, it could easily cause stomach issues.  That combined with the overall theme we don’t care for, we typically skip this ride for the other Toy Story rides in the area.

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy-  Sunset Boulevard

Another attraction we tend to skip when in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy.  Guests learn what it takes to be a champion racer from McQueen himself during this show.

It is great to see Lightning McQueen in the Park, this ride is hard to get to (way behind Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster) meaning we often forget it is there or don’t care to walk all the way there for a show.

The show is cute and little ones who love the Cars franchise will probably think it is amazing, but as for us, it isn’t something we plan into our Park day.

Muppet Vision 3D- Grand Avenue

This one actually makes us sad that it is one the list, but it is a true fact.  When in Disney’s Hollywood Studios we very seldom make our way to see Muppet Vision 3D.

This show has been around for a while and is full of basic 3D jokes featuring the beloved Muppets.  The effects are ones that could use an update and overall there are so many other fantastic attractions to choose from in Disney’s Hollywood Studios now that this one gets overlooked.

Beauty and the Beast:  Live on Stage- Sunset Boulevard

When we think of shows that we typically skip, unfortunately Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage is one of the first ones to go.

There isn’t anything wrong with the show, but when we have limited time in the Park, we find ourselves skipping this one in favor of For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing Along.  This show is a little fresher overall.

If you have time in your schedule or are visiting a few days, consider making room for this in your plans.  The costumes are great and the songs are still wonderful.

Star Tours:  The Adventure Continues- Echo Lake

This one makes the skip list due to motion sickness.  We love seeing R2D2 and C-3PO, but the 3D glasses combined with the rough movement of this ride is one that we can’t handle.

If you are one that doesn’t have issues with motion sickness, this is one you might add to your list.  It is a fun ride that brings scenes from all the different Star Wars movies into the action.

Those are the five attractions in Disney’s Hollywood Studios that we tend to skip during our vacation.  Now we have five that are must-dos each and every time we are visiting this Disney Park.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway- Hollywood Boulevard

Our first must-do attraction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios features the main mouse himself.  Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney’s Hollywood Studios quickly became a must-do attraction for our Walt Disney World vacations when it opened in 2020.

The whole experience is amazing from the start of the ride to the ride vehicles to the new projections, this ride has it all.

It is also the first ride featuring Mickey Mouse himself so how can we not ride it each vacation.

Rock n’ Roller Coaster- Sunset Boulevard

For a rocking good time, we always make sure we ride Rock n’ Roller Coaster.  This high-speed coaster starts with a launch that has Guests racing through the streets of Hollywood.

We love the Aerosmith songs that blast as we rush through loops and corkscrews as well as the net road signs along the way.

We absolutely have to ride this roller coaster when in the Park.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror- Sunset Boulevard

Right next door to Rock n’ Roller Coaster is another must-do attraction for us and that is Tower of Terror.  This thrilling ride is like nothing else in Walt Disney World.

Guests are boarded into an old service elevator in the abandoned hotel that will soon have them dropping into the fun.

We love that each and every ride is different and there is no way to predict the drops.  We often try to ride Tower of Terror multiple times during our trips.

Slinky Dog Dash- Toy Story Land

A great family-coaster, we love riding Slinky Dog Dash back in Toy Story Land.  From the coils to the high curve, we love how this coaster is a little bit more thrilling than we think, catching us by surprise when we ride.

We love the views from the coaster and the overall theming is incredible.  We look forward to this ride each time we are in the Park.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance– Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

For us, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a must experience each trip.  Even if you aren’t a Star Wars fan, this is a must-do experience. First of all, we want to ride this over and over again because there is so much to see and take in that we feel we are constantly experiencing something new when we ride.

This ride truly puts Guests into the magic of the story as we have never experienced before.  We definitely feel like Rise of the Resistance is a must-do when visiting Walt Disney World.

Those are the five attractions that we have to ride each time we are in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  They are fun, exciting rides that bring us laughter and joy each time we experience them.

It is hard to get everything in during a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  We hope that this list helps you determine where you might spend your time when visiting.
