2026 Is Shaping up To Be the Worst Year for ‘Jurassic Park’
The Jurassic Park franchise has long dominated the dinosaur survival genre across film, television, and gaming, but that long-standing position is beginning to face growing competition from unexpected places.

Another Jurassic Park Is Coming (No Relation)
One of the most notable challengers is Clawed, an upcoming survival horror game from Flatrock Games, set in an abandoned dinosaur theme park known as Prehistoria.
The title recently unveiled a new gameplay trailer alongside its official Steam release date of July 23. The footage highlights third-person survival mechanics, puzzle-solving elements, and encounters with a wide range of prehistoric creatures, including both land-based predators and large aquatic threats. Watch the new trailer below:
According to its official Steam description, players are sent on a covert mission through the park’s environments, where resource management and exploration are key to survival. The game’s tone leans heavily into tension and isolation, placing players in a setting where danger is constant and unavoidable.
More Rival Dinosaur Movies and Games
However, dinosaur-themed competition is not limited to gaming.
The upcoming film The End of Oak Street, directed by David Robert Mitchell (It Follows), also introduces a prehistoric survival premise. Starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the film follows a suburban neighborhood suddenly transported into a prehistoric world following a mysterious cosmic event.
The film is set for release in IMAX on August 14 and has already generated attention following the release of its second trailer, which you can watch below:
While unrelated to the Jurassic Park franchise, both projects highlight how the concept of humans surviving in prehistoric environments is expanding beyond Universal’s long-running series.
Even within gaming, the competition is increasing, with projects such as Instinction, The Lost Wild, and Ferocious all exploring variations on dinosaur survival gameplay.
Meanwhile, fan-led projects like Cretaceous Kingdom continue to demonstrate sustained interest in the genre, even after facing legal pressure related to its original Jurassic branding.
Despite this growing landscape of rival projects, Universal’s own Jurassic Park: Survival remains one of the most anticipated entries in the genre.

Developed by Saber Interactive, the game is set shortly after the events of the 1993 film and returns players to Isla Nublarin a first-person survival horror experience.
First revealed at The Game Awards in 2023, the project continues to be closely watched despite limited updates since its initial showcase.
As the genre expands, Jurassic Park remains the foundational blueprint—but it is no longer alone in the ecosystem it helped create.
