11 Fabulous Things to Do at Animal Kingdom When It's Raining

Finding Nemo the Musical

Let's Recap!

1. Catch “Finding Nemo — The Musical”

There’s nothing quite like a good Broadway-style musical, and “Finding Nemo — The Musical” is a seriously good one that can be seen right there in Animal Kingdom!

The performers are top notch, and the set design, light design, costumes, and puppets all come together to create a wonderful, memorable performance. Best of all, it’s all inside, meaning you won’t get wet.

2. See “Festival of the Lion King”

Another amazing indoor performance can be found in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom. “Festival of the Lion King” is an amazing show filled with some incredibly talented people. From acrobatic tumblers to a guy who dances with fire, there’s a little bit of everything in this energetic variety show.

3. Ride Dinosaur

One of only a few indoor rides in Animal Kingdom, Dinosaur is a great option when it’s raining. While this ride is a bit too intense for some, others love it. If you’re one of those who seriously enjoys this ride, riding it again and again shouldn’t be a problem for you.

4. Get Soaked on Kali River Rapids

If you’re going to get wet in the rain anyway, you might as well go all out. Kali River Rapids will continue to run in the rain as long as there isn't lightning or torrential downpour. Go ahead and hop on and embrace being wet!

5. Hang Out with Mickey and Minnie

Of course, there are more options if you’re the type who avoids getting wet at all costs. The Mickey and Minnie meet-and-greet at Animal Kingdom is indoors. It’s fun because you get to meet the classic couple all dressed up in their safari gear, making for a memorable photo.

6. Hop on Kilimanjaro Safaris

Another one that continues to run in the rain—assuming lightning isn’t in the picture—is Kilimanjaro Safaris. This is actually a great attraction to experience when the weather is wet because many animals come out of hiding during rainstorms, meaning you might see some different creatures than you normally would have.

7. Drift Through Na’vi River Journey

Another of the few indoor rides is the new Na’vi River Journey, located in Pandora – The World of Avatar. This slow-moving boat ride is absolutely breathtaking and features some truly impressive special effects, including the best animatronic on Disney property.

Some of the queue is outdoors, but it’s almost all covered, meaning you can stay dry while you wait.

8. Experience Avatar Flight of Passage

The third and final indoor ride in Animal Kingdom is the amazing Avatar Flight of Passage. This is by far the most impressive ride in Animal Kingdom—and perhaps in all of Disney World—and it’s a must-ride whether it rains or not.

The line can get quite long, meaning it will sometimes stretch outside of the usual indoor queuing area, but this likely won’t be an issue during a rainstorm, as the crowds tend to clear out a bit when the rain begins. Take advantage of it!

9. Grab a Quick Meal

Of course, if you’re hungry, you could just use the rain as a chance to sit down to a yummy meal. Many of the Animal Kingdom quick-service locations are outdoors. However, there are two great indoor options: Restaurantosaurus and Satu’li Canteen. Both are tasty and a great way to get out of the rain.

10. ...or Try a Table-Service Eatery

Another great option if you’re hungry is to sit down to a table-service meal. If you can snag a table at Tiffins, Tusker House, Yak & Yeti, or Rainforest Cafe, you’ll be in for a delicious meal as well as a nice way to stay dry when the rain starts to pour.

11. Get in Some Shopping

Finally, you could always head into one of the awesome indoor shops the park has to offer and get some souvenir shopping in. After all, you have to pick up those gifts at some point; why not get it done while the rain is falling?
