8. It’s a Small World
This original, iconic attraction, which debuted in Disneyland, on May 28, 1966 was part of a major celebration that was hosted by Walt Disney himself accompanied by children from all over the world in their native costumes, who poured flasks of water from their homelands into the water on which the boats travel. “Small World” was one of Walt’s favorite creations, and one he was extremely proud of. This grand opening came after a wildly successful appearance at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. The “legend” has it that if you ride “It’s a Small World”, the song “It’s a Small World After All” will stay in your head forever. This song was written by the legendary Sherman Brothers, who are responsible for many of the songs made famous in Disney animated feature length films, attractions, and stage shows. The ride itself is a gentle, meandering boat ride featuring animatronic children from different countries singing and dancing in their native costumes to the tune of “It’s a Small World After All”. The moment you step inside this beautifully designed attraction, you can feel Walt Disney’s presence, his spirit, and his creative imagination. No one leaves this family-friendly ride without a smile on their face, and a song in their heart.
