Though the feature was home to many Disney firsts, it was also the last performance of Clarance Nash, the original voice actor for Donald Duck. Nash voiced Donald for 50 years until his death in 1985. Of the cast of Mickey’s Christmas Carol, he was the only original voice actor to assume the role of a main character. Though Nash continued to voice Donald in commercials and TV spots, this would be the last full feature he would lend his voice to the famous foul-tempered fowl. For Disney scholars and fans of classic Disney, the short is a piece of history. Mickey’s Christmas Carol is the last hurrah for a Disney Legend and animation pioneer. This Christmas, show some love for one of Disney’s originals.
