Do NOT Let These Avoidable Mistakes Ruin Your 2023 Disney Trip
It might sometimes seem impossible to plan a Walt Disney World trip. There is so much to know and many decisions that must be made ahead of time. We are here to help you manage your trip. Avoid these mistakes many Guests make so your trip will be that much better.
Take a look at some of the avoidable mistakes you might encounter during your Walt Disney World trip. We hope to bring them to your attention before your trip so that you can avoid them altogether.
Forgetting Park Pass Reservations
Guests make a significant mistake when heading to Walt Disney World recently: they forget they need both a Theme Park Ticket and Park Pass Reservations. Since reopening, Walt Disney World has required Guests to make Park Pass Reservations for each day of their Theme Park Ticket.
To make these, Guests must go into their My Disney Experience account (via the website). As Parks book up, it is essential that Guests do this as soon as possible. Don’t make the mistake of showing up to the Magic Kingdom and not being able to enter because you don’t have a Park Pass Reservation.
Although Disney has made modifying and changing these bookings easier, we still highly recommend getting those Parks booked as soon as possible. This mistake is avoidable but can have a massive impact on your trip.
Not Learning About Genie+
Both Disney Genie and Genie+ are features that Guests can find on the My Disney Experience app. These two features are designed to help Guests navigate the Disney Parks successfully.
Disney Genie is a free service within the app that will give Guests suggestions on how to tour the Disney Parks. Genie+ is a paid feature that Guests can add each day for a starting price of $15 per person per day.
No matter your initial feelings towards Genie+, don’t make the mistake of showing up at Disney without knowing how it works. Take time before your trip to research and get a basic understanding of what Genie+ has to offer.
If you know you will use Genie+, take the time to learn about what rides you should prioritize, when you can make reservations, and how to get the most out of Genie+. We have some great posts on How to Disney to help you successfully navigate Genie+.

Not Making a Food Plan
Don’t make the mistake of showing up at Walt Disney World thinking you will be able to wing your meals. Take time to think about what would work best for your family when it comes to dining at Walt Disney World. Do they prefer slower sit-down meals, or would they prefer to eat on the go?
If you plan to eat at table service restaurants during your vacation, you will want to make dining reservations ahead of time. These can be booked starting 60 days before check-in.
Quick service locations are perfect for those that want to maximize their time in the Parks. Don’t wait until the last minute for these locations, either. Use mobile order through the My Disney Experience app to bypass long lines and get your food quickly. We highly recommend placing your order early on in the day to ensure the time that you want at the location your group prefers.
No one wants to end up with a hungry and tired group. Make a dining plan ahead of time so you can avoid those meltdowns.
Getting Caught in the Elements
Even if you think of Florida as always sunny and warm, there are times when the weather can be cold and wet. Avoid getting stuck in the elements by packing for the weather. Have rain gear and layers to help you stay warm and dry. Toss in those cheap ponchos even if the weather calls for no rain.
There are winter months even in Florida when traveling during the winter months. Make sure you have layers. Bring hats, mittens, coats, blankets, and even scarves. These will keep everyone nice and warm as you wait for those evening fireworks shows.
Having a Dead Phone
Make sure you walk into the Disney Parks daily with a fully charged phone. Access to My Disney Experience is essential for a successful day in the Parks. This is where you will see wait times, order food, parade times, and so much more.
Keep yourself connected by having a portable charger for everyone as well. These packed in your Park bag will help keep everyone happy and connected throughout the day.
