Five Disney Springs Stores Now Refuse Disney Payment Methods at Walt Disney World
Add the LEGO Store to the list of Disney Springs stores no longer accepting Disney Gift Cards.
Disney Gift Cards, Disney Rewards redemption cards, Disney resort room charge. None of them work there anymore.
Same story at Zara. Same at Vera Bradley. Same at Sephora. And Vuori, which opened October 16, never took them at all.
There are signs up near checkout at some of these places, which is better than nothing, but it does not help much if you have already loaded a cart.
Some context.
This started back in August with a few stores. Guest Relations said at the time that third-party contracts had changed.
Then came the line that actually matters. Guest Relations indicated that most stores opening from here on will probably not accept the Disney payment methods either.
So this is not a handful of retailers bailing. This is the new normal in Disney Springs leases.
Sephora Is the Part You Need to Hear
In August, Sephora was on the good list. Specifically called out as a store that was still accepting Disney Gift Cards.
October, it is out.
Two months.
So whatever list you saw, including this one, has a shelf life. A store that took your gift cards in the spring might decline them in the fall, and nobody is going to send you an alert about it.
Stop assuming. Ask at the register.
Vuori Never Even Pretended
Vuori opened October 16 and simply does not accept these payments. Not a change, not a reversal. That is just how it launched.
Which tells you everything. New tenants are coming in without it, old tenants are dropping it as contracts turn over, and the list grows either way.
Why Disney Springs and Not the Parks
Quick reality check on how this place works.
Theme parks are Disney-run, top to bottom. Disney Springs is a mall where Disney is the landlord and national brands are the tenants.
Zara has hundreds of stores. Sephora has hundreds. LEGO has hundreds. Using Disney Gift Cards means building a one-off payment integration and settlement process for exactly one location across the entire chain.
Line that up next to what Guest Relations said about contracts, and the likely answer is that gift card acceptance lived in older lease terms and is quietly dying as those get rewritten.
Disney has not said that part out loud, so call it reading the tea leaves.
The Room Charge Thing Is the Real Trap
Three payment methods got hit, and they do not fail the same way.
Gift card in your pocket? You know it is there. You probably have a backup.
Room charge? That is the whole point of a MagicBand. You leave your wallet in the hotel safe and walk around all day touching your wrist to things.
Now imagine that at the LEGO Store. Full cart. Kid standing right there. No wallet.
That is the one that gets people, so bring an actual card to Disney Springs even if you never need one anywhere else on property.
Good News, Dinner Is Fine
Important, because this is going to get garbled on social media.
Disney Springs restaurants still accept Disney Gift Cards, redemption cards, and room charge.
Been saving up Disney Visa points all year for a nice meal at Disney Springs? That plan is completely intact. Nothing about this touches dining.
It is retail. Third-party retail specifically.
Where Your Money Definitely Still Works
Nothing is lost here; it just gets pointed somewhere else.
All Disney-owned and operated spots still take gift cards, and at Disney Springs that includes World of Disney and the Disney Store. Both of which are massive and stocked with most of what people actually came to buy.
Theme park third-party shops are still fine too. For now.
Why LEGO Specifically Stings
Run down that store list again.
Zara. Sephora. Vuori. Vera Bradley. All adult purchases. If your card gets declined, you swap quietly, and nobody cries.
The LEGO Store is a kid destination. Possibly the kid destination at Disney Springs.
Parent holding an envelope of gift cards, child already holding a set they picked out, cashier saying no. That is a different kind of moment entirely.
Know before you walk in.
How to Handle Disney Springs Now
- Carry a credit or debit card, even if MagicBand is your normal move
- Ask at the register before you shop anywhere third-party
- Burn gift cards at World of Disney, the Disney Store, and restaurants
- Do not trust that a store still takes them just because it did last trip
- Leave your dining plans alone; they are unaffected
Every write-up of this includes the words “so far,” and that is not filler. August, Disney Springs only. October, still Disney Springs only.
Whether it creeps into the parks is the thing to watch.
