The Actual Headline

The Disney Believe will premiere the world’s first stage adaptation of Encanto.

Disney has turned animated films into stage productions for decades, and those have always debuted on Broadway or in the West End. The Lion King. Aladdin. Frozen.

This one debuts at sea.

The show takes place in the Walt Disney Theatre, follows Mirabel saving her family and their home, and incorporates Colombian culture through costume, scenic design, and traditional dance. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “Surface Pressure” are in it.

A major Disney stage adaptation premiering on a cruise ship rather than a theater is a genuine shift. The fleet used to be where Broadway shows got trimmed down. Now it is where one starts.

Tangled: The Musical joins it, returning from the Disney Magic with new sets and effects, alongside Disney Seas the Adventure.

New Venues

Oaken’s Table: A Frozen Family Feast. An untold Frozen chapter in a Scandinavian Sommerhus courtyard. Oaken’s cousins perform reworked songs from the films. Anna and Kristoff appear.

Wishing Well. Adult lounge from Snow White, in three settings: a gothic castle bar with stained glass, a courtyard with white blossoms and red apples, and a hand-carved performance space evoking the dwarfs’ cottage.

Sea Notes. Piano lounge based on Ariel’s grotto, built around a pearlescent piano.

Skygazers. A pub designed as an astronomer’s laboratory. Craft brews, celestial maps, live sports.

Gazelle. Zootopia entertainment hub. Family programming by day, adult entertainment and silent discos at night. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde headline a new family show, a DCL first.

Big Hero Sips and Café Kakamora. Coffee shops from San Fransokyo and Motunui.

Inside Out: Joyful Sweets. Sculptures of Joy, Sadness, Anxiety, and Envy, the Sense of Self structure, nearly 20 gelato and ice cream flavors.

Pluto’s Pita Platters. Believe-exclusive upper deck Mediterranean stall.

Returning: 1923, Worlds of Marvel, Haunted Mansion Parlor with a new drink menu, Palo, Enchanté, The Rose, and the rest of the adult spaces.

The Suite Worth Noting

Staterooms carry papercut artwork from Moana, Coco, and Inside Out. About 70 percent have verandahs, with 450-plus connecting doors.

Four royal suites include Royal Reef from The Little Mermaid and Royal Rose from Beauty and the Beast.

Then the Believe Tower Suite, exclusive to this ship. Nearly 2,000 square feet, two stories, built inside the forward funnel, sleeping eight, four and a half bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, rooms themed to Magic Kingdom lands.

A two-story suite inside the funnel is a real design swing.

Family Side

AquaMouse returns at 760 feet with two new shorts, “Swiss Meltdown” and “Sing a Silly Song.”

Seven pools across three themed upper deck districts, plus a Toy Story water play area with splash zone, wading pool, family slide, and smoothie bar.

Oceaneer Club covers ages 3 to 10 with Marvel Super Hero Academy, Fairytale Hall, Star Wars: Cargo Bay, Imagineering Lab, and Captain’s Deck. The entrance is Believe-exclusive and Monsters, Inc. themed, with the “Caution: 2319” sign and a Mike Wazowski figure.

The it’s a small world nursery, Edge, Vibe, and The Hideaway round out the kids and teen spaces. The Grand Hall is Moana themed with a Te Fiti chandelier.

Fans Were Not Thrilled

“Meh,” wrote one Threads user. Another posted the same thing, separately.

“Wash, rinse, repeat,” wrote user mickeygurutravel. “Another Frozen restaurant? Another Haunted Mansion lounge?”

“Boring ship with rehashed IP and boring rehashed itineraries,” wrote user kathistetser.

Fair to push back slightly, though. Count the new venues above, and there is real volume there. The complaint is less that nothing is new and more that the new material draws from a familiar IP shelf on a fourth identical hull.

The sharpest criticism came from a fan who spotted a missed layup.

“They had the Snuggly Duckling RIGHT THERE,” wrote user pupusa.princess. “But sure, Haunted Mansion round 3.”

The ship is staging Tangled. Disney built an astronomer’s pub instead of the pub from Tangled. Another user independently expected the same thing.

The Explanation Nobody Offered

One fan framed it best.

“Believe is the more traditional Disney cruise ship when the Treasure and Destiny are the Disney adult ones,” wrote Samuel blank on X.

Look at the ship through that lens. Seven pools. Toy Story splash area. Zootopia family show. Mike Wazowski is guarding the kids’ club.

This ship is built for families with young children. Which means much of the disappointment is adult cruisers reviewing a ship that was never aimed at them.
