Effective Saturday, Disney Is Shuttering Toy Story Land and 2 Other Lands at 6:30 p.m.

Disney guests are facing an unusual change to park operations this weekend.

Disney theme parks typically operate on a published daily schedule, but individual attractions and themed lands can close before the official park closing time. These adjustments can affect everything from ride availability to entertainment, particularly during the evening.

At Disneyland Resort in California, for example, Mickey’s Toontown has previously closed early to accommodate nighttime fireworks. Certain Fantasyland attractions are also subject to temporary closures when pyrotechnics require Disney to clear nearby areas for safety reasons.

Private events can bring additional restrictions, with Disney occasionally reserving sections of its parks for invited guests. Now, visitors to one resort will lose access to three entire themed lands hours before the rest of the park closes.

Disney Confirms Three Lands Will Close Early on October 10

Starting Saturday, October 10, Hong Kong Disneyland will close Toy Story Land, Mystic Point, and Grizzly Gulch at 6:30 p.m. The same restrictions will apply on Sunday, October 11, with Disney confirming that the closures are necessary to accommodate a private event.

According to the park’s official operating calendar, Hong Kong Disneyland is scheduled to open from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. The changes mean regular guests will lose two hours of access to three of the park’s eight themed lands.

Disney has not publicly detailed the nature of the private event or identified its attendees. However, the restrictions will affect several of the park’s most notable attractions, including rides that cannot be found at Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort in California.

Grizzly Gulch, which opened in 2012, is home to Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars. The roller coaster sends guests racing through a fictional mining town, with sections of the attraction traveling both forward and backward.

Next door, Mystic Point features Mystic Manor, a trackless dark ride that opened in 2013. Often compared to Disney’s Haunted Mansion attractions, it follows a different story involving an enchanted music box and the collection of explorer Lord Henry Mystic.

Toy Story Land will also shut at 6:30 p.m., affecting three rides inspired by Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. These include RC Racer, Toy Soldier Parachute Drop, and Slinky Dog Spin, all of which will become unavailable to regular guests when the land closes.

Unlike the more elaborate (and, dare we say it, superior) Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, Hong Kong’s version focuses on smaller, carnival-style attractions. While both lands feature oversized toy theming, Hong Kong lacks the Florida park’s Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster, Toy Story Mania! interactive dark ride, and the recently refreshed Alien Swirling Saucers.

The early closures come during Hong Kong Disneyland’s Halloween celebrations, when the resort offers seasonal entertainment alongside its regular lineup of attractions.

Disney has warned that operating hours and entertainment schedules are subject to change without advance notice. Guests visiting on either date should therefore check the resort’s official calendar or mobile app before making their plans.

Five Disney Lands Will Remain Accessible Until Park Closing

Despite the restrictions, Hong Kong Disneyland will continue operating throughout the evening. Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and World of Frozen are not included in the announced land closures.

Guests will still be able to visit major attractions elsewhere in the park, subject to their individual operating schedules. These include Frozen Ever After, Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs, Hyperspace Mountain, Iron Man Experience, and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Several entertainment offerings are also scheduled to continue after the three lands close.

On October 10, the Halloween stage production Let’s Get Wicked has a final performance listed for 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Mickey and the Wondrous Book, a musical featuring Disney characters and songs, is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Playhouse in the Woods, an interactive Frozen experience, is listed through 7 p.m., while Uninvited! A Villains Takeover Party has its final performance scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Other seasonal entertainment, including Mickey’s Happy Halloween Adventure, will take place earlier in the day. Guests hoping to experience both the Halloween offerings and the affected lands should account for the reduced evening access.

Hong Kong Disneyland is also celebrating its 20th anniversary, which has introduced new entertainment across the resort. The festivities have included the Friendtastic! Parade and Momentous – Party in the Night Sky, an expanded nighttime spectacular featuring projections, music, and fireworks.

The park closures are not the only operational changes approaching at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

On Monday, October 12, the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel will temporarily close in its entirety for extensive refurbishment work. Disney says the project will introduce improvements to the property’s facilities, services, and guest accommodations.

The Victorian-style hotel – similar in aesthetic to the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at Walt Disney World Resort – opened in 2005 alongside the theme park and contains approximately 400 rooms. According to local reports, the renovations will include additional Disney-themed accommodations while preserving the property’s original design.

Work on the hotel’s west wing began in June, but the October 12 closure will extend the refurbishment across the entire property. Disney has not announced an official reopening date.

Both Disney Explorers Lodge and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel will remain operational during the closure, allowing guests to continue booking accommodations within the resort.
