Theme park guests hoping for a late night in Orlando are going to have surprisingly few options.
Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort both have shortened operating hours on September 29th, creating an unusual situation across the destination. Five of Orlando’s seven major theme parks will end regular operations by 7:00 p.m.
Three of them are closing at just 6:00 p.m.
For guests paying full price for their park days, those lost evening hours can make a big difference.
Three Theme Parks Close at 6 P.M.
Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Epic Universe all close at 6:00 p.m.
Magic Kingdom’s early closure comes because of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Regular daytime guests must leave the park at 6:00 p.m. unless they also have admission to the separately ticketed Halloween event.
Animal Kingdom also closes at 6:00 p.m., giving guests an especially short evening at the Disney park.
Universal has its own major early closure at Epic Universe.
Universal Orlando’s newest theme park closes at 6:00 p.m. because of a private event. That could be particularly disappointing for guests hoping to see Epic Universe after sunset, when areas such as Celestial Park transform with nighttime lighting.
Those three closures alone would make for an unusual Orlando theme park night. However, two more parks aren’t staying open much longer.
Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure Close at 7 P.M.
Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure both close at 7:00 p.m.
Universal Studios Florida’s schedule stands out because Halloween Horror Nights isn’t happening tonight. The park frequently closes early on event nights during the Halloween season, but guests aren’t losing those evening hours to Horror Nights this time.
One theme park fan summed up the situation on X.
“Kind of amazing 3 of the 7 major Orlando theme parks close at 6 and 2 at 7. Yes i realize 2 are for private events but still,” the user wrote.
That leaves Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT as the only major Orlando theme parks open beyond 7:00 p.m. Both close at 9:00 p.m.
Paying Guests Lose Valuable Evening Hours
Early closures aren’t necessarily unusual. Disney and Universal host separately ticketed events, private parties and other experiences throughout the year.
Still, September 29’s schedule shows why checking operating hours before buying tickets has become so important.
A guest entering Magic Kingdom or Epic Universe has a very different day when the park closes at 6:00 p.m. instead of remaining open deep into the evening.
That’s especially significant for families who take afternoon hotel breaks or deliberately arrive later to avoid spending an entire day in the Florida heat.
Disney and Universal tickets already represent a significant expense. When five of Orlando’s seven major theme parks shut down by 7:00 p.m., regular guests have far fewer opportunities to stretch that admission into a long evening.
Whatever the reason behind each individual closure, that’s a lot of expensive theme park gates shutting surprisingly early on the same night.
