Disney Guests Say Oga’s Cantina Is Now a”Hot Mess” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Oga’s Cantina should be the easiest recommendation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

A working cantina inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Droid DJ. Exotic drinks. The theming that made people emotional when the land opened. For a certain kind of Star Wars fan, walking into that room is the entire reason to visit.

The reviews have gotten rough.

A guest posted to Reddit this week under the title “Oga’s Cantina is a Hot Mess,” and the replies turned into a detailed takedown.

But there is a distinction almost nobody in that thread made, and it changes which complaints actually land.

What Started It

A guest visiting with six adults described their seating.

“They sat us at a booth that already had 5 people at it,” wrote user Princessferfs. “What the actual F do their reservation people think is the max at these booths? We couldn’t all sit there, we had to wait until other people left.”

They added: “I get that they want to pump as many people through the place as possible. The standing-only tables are also dumb.”

More stories followed.

“Party of 6 crammed at a table with a party of 4,” wrote user alanrappa, who canceled a Beak and Barrel reservation afterward.

Another described nine people given a booth, then a couple placed on stools at the head of their table. “It was unpleasant for both us and them, so we just left,” wrote user Domer579.

What Disney Discloses

Here is where legitimate complaints separate from unmet expectations.

Disney’s own page says it plainly.

“Oga’s Cantina consists mainly of standing room, with limited seating. Seating is not guaranteed upon entry.”

The page also notes the experience “is limited to 45 minutes per party,” takes place in an enclosed space with low lighting and high activity, and caps guests at two drinks.

So standing room, the time limit, and no guaranteed seating are all published before you book. Commenters noticed.

“Never understood the mindset of knowing exactly how something is going to be, and then complaining when you choose to do said thing,” wrote user jelloburn.

Fair point.

What Disney Does Not Disclose

But the original complaint was not about standing room.

It was about six people being seated at a booth already holding five, in a space that cannot physically fit eleven.

Nothing on Disney’s page prepares you for being packed past a table’s capacity, or for strangers getting added to the head of your party’s booth.

That is not policy. That is execution, and it is the complaint that survives scrutiny.

One commenter proposed a fix that is hard to argue with.

“If a table fits six max, and a party of two is already there, do not put four because no one wants to be crammed with strangers, put an additional two for a total of four max at the table,” wrote user Horror_Response_1991.

It Is Wildly Inconsistent

Plenty of guests had a great time, which is what makes advising anyone difficult.

“Our family was sat at the bar. It was great. Even our kids loved it,” wrote user Fearless_Gur3933, describing stormtroopers passing through and a rebel spy hiding behind their kids’ menus.

“My family and I went twice in September and enjoyed ourselves both times,” wrote user bobo377.

Another guest had two visits with opposite results. First trip: a booth shared with a couple from the UK and a waiter running Star Wars trivia. Second trip: getting bumped at a standing table by a waiter who “seemed to hate his job.”

Same venue. Same rules. Different night.

Two Tips That Actually Work

Multiple guests independently confirmed both of these.

Ask for the bar at check-in.

“When you check in just request to sit at the bar. You might have to wait longer but they will sit you at the bar,” wrote user Grantsdale.

Nearly every positive account involved bar seating. “Sitting at the bar is really the only way that it’s enjoyable,” wrote user captainwizeazz.

Take the last reservation of the night.

“Oga’s rez at 8:50, leave at 10ish. My sister and I do this at least once every trip,” wrote user sillasouth. “Empty Galaxy’s Edge at night is the best Galaxy’s Edge.”

Others echoed it. Lighter crowds, staff with time to talk, and walking out through an empty land.

Hollywood Studios currently lists Oga’s dinner service until 9 p.m., so check availability rather than assuming a late slot exists.

The Disneyland Difference

One detail stands out.

“We did walk-up at Oga’s in Disneyland, they don’t do reservations, with immediate seating and the place was relatively dead,” wrote user HollyAnne1988. “It was a stark difference from my Disney World experience where it was packed like sardines wall to wall.”

Same concept. Different operation. Different result.

Before You Book

Oga’s falls in Disney’s $15 to $34.99 per adult range, does not accept Dining Plan meals, and requires a credit card guarantee with a cancellation policy.

Check-in is no earlier than 15 minutes before your time, and everyone in your party must be present.

Expect a 45-minute stop with a real chance of standing, and it can be great. Expect an hour off your feet, and Disney already told you otherwise.

The booth overfilling is a separate issue entirely.
