Lucasfilm’s 50th-anniversary plans aren’t limited to bringing the original Star Wars movie back to theaters. The studio is preparing a particularly busy celebration around Star Wars (1977), with projects spanning movies, comics, exhibitions, and publishing.
There’s Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd, the Welsh-language version of A New Hope arriving on S4C and its streaming platforms from Christmas Day, 2026. Meanwhile, Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles will launch in January as a comic-book crossover event.
The original film will receive a theatrical re-release on February 19, 2027, while Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute will welcome Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy the same month. Then there’s one particularly unconventional way of revisiting the movie that started everything.

Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take is an all-ages graphic novel from Mad Cave Studios, and it isn’t simply another adaptation of the 1977 film. Instead, the book divides the story between three of its most recognizable characters.
The project was announced during the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel at SDCC and is another example of the studio looking back at its original movie from a new angle as the 50th anniversary approaches.
Kim Shearer and Chas! Pangburn have written the project as a multi-perspective retelling, allowing Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo to recount the events according to their own experiences. That changes the emphasis considerably.
For Luke, the story becomes a sweeping journey about courage and destiny. Leia’s perspective puts the realities of the Rebellion and its battle against the Empire at the forefront. Han, meanwhile, remembers himself as being considerably more heroic than perhaps anyone else would.
The graphic novel therefore doesn’t need to change what happened in A New Hope to make the story feel different — it changes who is telling it.
Lucasfilm initially announced the graphic novel for February 2027; however, the current publisher listing gives it an April 27, 2027 release date.
So while the anniversary won’t see three separate movies retelling A New Hope, readers will get three versions of its story, essentially creating a new Star Wars trilogy — with Luke, Leia, and Han each getting the opportunity to tell it their way.
