Attractions go down for mechanical checks, weather holds, or unexpected glitches on a near-daily basis, and this month it was Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind’s turn to experience an unplanned pause — one that ended up giving a handful of riders a view of the coaster they don’t usually get.

Cosmic Rewind, located in EPCOT’s World Discovery neighborhood, is consistently one of the park’s toughest tickets, with wait times that regularly stretch well past an hour. Its popularity means that any interruption to ride operations affects a large number of guests in a short amount of time, and this latest incident was no exception.

According to a firsthand account posted by Instagram user @travelsbymarisha, roughly seven ride vehicles were brought to a stop when the attraction experienced a technical issue mid-ride. Guests aboard those vehicles were required to exit the coaster as part of the standard evacuation procedure. Once restraints were released, riders were able to see the full show building lit up, including the coaster’s layout, a sight typically reserved for cast members during maintenance periods rather than paying guests.

The creator, @travelsbymarisha, shared the moment in a post captioned, “My first ride evac was an epic one!” tagged with “#guardiansofthegalaxycosmicrewind #epcot #rideevacuation #cosmicrewindepcot #travelsbymarisha.”

During the delay, the creator reported trouble hearing cast member announcements, since their vehicle’s position on the track made the audio difficult to make out. That detail highlights a recurring challenge with in-ride evacuations: communication quality can vary significantly depending on exactly where a vehicle stops within the show building.

This was not the family’s first encounter with a Cosmic Rewind stoppage. Marisha also recounted a previous visit in which her daughter was stuck on the ride for an estimated 20 to 25 minutes before the attraction restarted on its own.

Per standard Disney protocol, guests affected by ride interruptions are typically compensated with a Lightning Lane pass, granting expedited return access to the attraction once it reopens. Marisha confirmed that her daughter received such a pass following the earlier stoppage, allowing her to ride again without waiting in the standard queue.

While an evacuation is rarely a guest’s preferred way to interact with a coaster, moments like this one continue to circulate widely among Disney enthusiasts curious about what happens behind the scenes when the lights come up.
