Disney World Confirms Amenity Closures at One of Its Priciest Deluxe Resorts

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is not a budget stay, and that shapes how this news lands.

Kidani Village is a Deluxe Villa property. Guests booking it pay Deluxe pricing or use Disney Vacation Club points saved specifically for this resort. Nobody books this one on a whim.

And the appeal is not just the room. Animal Kingdom Lodge is built around the traditional African kraal, its horseshoe-curved design opening onto lush savannas where more than 30 species of African wildlife roam. Lobby spaces, observation decks, and common areas are part of what that price buys.

So when those spaces vanish behind curtains, guests notice differently than they would at a Value resort.

Which is happening right now and will run for months.

What Is Closed Today at Disney

Walk through Kidani Village, and parts of the main lobby are blocked off.

One entrance carries a sign: “Pardon our pixie dust. This entrance is closed for refurbishment.” An arrow sends guests toward the main lobby and check-in.

Black curtains cover construction in the main lobby, with another sign reading: “Please pardon our pixie dust. This area is under refurbishment.”

Per Disney’s official notice, the work began on August 17 and is expected to finish in early November.

Every Phase, Every Date

Phased work, so the impact depends entirely on when you are there.

August 17 to October 9

  • Main lobby and primary entrance closed
  • Check-in moves to the Palace Library

August 17 to 28

  • Johari Treasures closed

September 28 to October 9

  • North side lobby corridor closed
  • Second-floor north lobby elevators are unavailable
  • Outdoor terrace observation deck unavailable

October 26 to November 6

  • South side lobby corridor closed
  • Community Hall unavailable
  • Safari So Good Arcade unavailable
  • Laundry room unavailable
  • Palace Library unavailable
  • Lobby restrooms unavailable
  • Outdoor terrace observation deck unavailable

That Last Phase at Disney Is the Problem

Read the October 26 to November 6 list again.

Community Hall, the arcade, the laundry room, the Palace Library, the lobby restrooms, and the observation deck all go offline together. That is a huge portion of the resort’s shared amenities gone at once.

The laundry room hurts families on longer stays, which describes a lot of DVC guests at a villa property. Community Hall closing takes out another amenity DVC members use specifically.

Booked inside that window? Plan for it now instead of finding out at check-in.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge features stunning African-inspired architecture with round turrets and thatched roofs, surrounded by swaying palm trees and giraffes roaming nearby—an iconic deluxe resort where guests can immerse themselves in the magic of Disney World. Where the Disney Gift Shop Went

Johari Treasures relocated during the work.

It moved to the Palace Library, which is also handling check-in while the main lobby is down.

Disney lists Johari Treasures as closed August 17 through 28, with reporting indicating an August 29 reopening.

Here is the wrinkle nobody has flagged. The Palace Library is doing double duty as check-in and shop right now, but the Palace Library itself closes October 26 through November 6.

Disney Is Warning About Noise

One line from the official notice deserves attention.

Guests may see or hear construction activity in the lobby area during daytime hours, including periods of more noticeable noise, until the work wraps up.

That is Disney saying outright that this will be audible. At a resort where atmosphere is a real part of the value, that counts.

Do You Need to Rebook

Mostly no. Depends on dates.

Staying between now and October 9? Relocated check-in and lobby curtains. Irritating, not trip-ruining.

Staying September 28 to October 9? Add the north elevators and observation deck to your list of missing things.

Staying from October 26 to November 6? That one is worth genuinely reconsidering. Six amenities gone simultaneously is a real cut to the resort’s offerings.

Savanna views, animal programs, and pool areas are untouched throughout, and that is the actual reason people book here.

The Dates

The full project runs from August 17 through early November 2026.

Three phases matter: the main lobby through October 9, the north corridor September 28 to October 9, and the south corridor October 26 to November 6.

Kidani Village stay booked in that stretch? Check your dates against the phases before you fly, not after.
