Disney Makes Unexpected Announcement About ‘Indiana Jones’ Ride

Disney has broken its silence on a long-missing attraction.

Indiana Jones remains a relatively rare presence across Disney’s global theme parks. Disneyland Resort, Tokyo DisneySea, and Disneyland Paris each operate a ride inspired by the archaeologist, although all three offer very different experiences.

California and Tokyo feature indoor adventures using motion-based vehicles, while the Paris attraction is an outdoor roller coaster built around a ruined archaeological site. Another Indiana Jones ride is now being developed for Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort, which already has a stunt show inspired by the franchise.

That attraction will replace DINOSAUR as part of the Tropical Americas expansion, which is currently expected to open in 2027. Before the franchise expands in Florida, however, Disney appears to be preparing the return of one of its existing rides.

Disney Teases the Return of a Missing Ride

Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull has been closed at Tokyo DisneySea since August 18, 2025.

The ride has remained unavailable for nearly a year, with Tokyo Disney Resort providing no reopening date and little information about the work taking place behind the scenes.

Disney has not said whether the attraction is receiving upgrades, extensive maintenance, or a more substantial refurbishment. The lack of details left guests unsure when the ride would return — or whether its prolonged closure signaled a larger change.

Disney did not identify the subject of the teaser or provide any additional explanation. However, the message appears to point toward the return of an existing attraction rather than the debut of a completely new experience.

The timing has placed Indiana Jones Adventure at the center of speculation. The ride is one of Tokyo DisneySea’s most prominent long-term closures and has been absent for far longer than many standard refurbishments at the resort.

Another clue appeared in the Oriental Land Company’s Q1 FY2027 earnings materials. The company, which owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort, included Indiana Jones Adventure among the attractions eligible for Disney Premier Access.

Disney Premier Access allows guests to pay for faster entry to selected rides and entertainment. Listing Indiana Jones suggests that the attraction remains part of Tokyo DisneySea’s future operating plans, even though Disney has not formally announced its reopening.

Neither the social media post nor the financial materials confirm an exact date. Together, however, they offer the strongest evidence so far that the attraction is preparing to welcome guests again.

Tokyo DisneySea Needs Indiana Jones Back

Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull opened alongside Tokyo DisneySea in 2001. It is located in Lost River Delta, a land inspired by Central American ruins and expeditions during the 1930s.

The attraction follows Indiana Jones as he searches for the Fountain of Youth. Guests enter the Temple of the Crystal Skull before their expedition is disrupted by traps, supernatural threats, collapsing scenery, and the ride’s signature rolling boulder sequence.

Although it shares similarities with Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland in California, the Tokyo ride uses a different storyline. The Disneyland attraction centers on the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, while Tokyo’s version focuses on the Crystal Skull and the Fountain of Youth.

Its closure has removed a major attraction from a park known for heavy crowds and long wait times. Guests frequently gather outside Tokyo DisneySea before opening, hoping to reach its most popular rides before queues begin building.

Demand is especially high for Journey to the Center of the Earth, Tower of Terror, Soaring: Fantastic Flight, and Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey. Wait times for these attractions can climb beyond an hour on busy days.

Indiana Jones previously gave guests another major ride option in Lost River Delta. Its return would restore capacity to the park and provide some relief for other high-demand attractions across Tokyo DisneySea.

The reopening could become even more important as Disney prepares to permanently close Aquatopia. The attraction is set to make way for an undisclosed replacement, although the resort has not revealed exactly what will be built in its place.

Bringing Indiana Jones Adventure back before another established attraction disappears would help limit the number of unavailable experiences inside the park.

Disney still has not confirmed the ride’s reopening date or explained what has kept it closed since August 2025. Its new teaser, however, makes clear that the attraction has not been forgotten.
