Disney fans have made their feelings clear about the studio’s growing number of live-action remakes, with a recent Frozen casting discussion sparking a wave of backlash.
Following an Inside the Magic article fan-casting Supergirl (2026) star Milly Alcock as Elsa in a potential live-action adaptation of Frozen (2013), many readers shared their frustrations with Disney’s remake strategy.
While Disney has found major success transforming animated classics into live-action films, some fans believe the studio has reached a point of “remake fatigue.”
Movies including The Jungle Book (2016), Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), The Lion King (2019), and Lilo & Stitch (2025) were all major box office hits. However, releases such as Mulan (2020), The Little Mermaid (2023), Snow White (2025), and Moana (2026) underperformed at the box office and divided audiences.

Disney Fans Respond to Frozen Remake Casting Suggestion

One commenter responded to the Frozen fan-casting by writing: “Please do [cast Milly Alcock], that way the Frozen remake will tank really hard. It needs to tank anyway.”
Another fan said: “I’m done with these watery, stinking, 95% CGI ‘live-action’ remakes.”
A third said: “The only two remakes I was interested in was [The] Lion King and [The] Jungle Book and I will watch them ONLY for the talking animal action and fights. They can’t hold a candle to the original[s] as far as anything else about them goes.”
The criticism comes as Frozen remains one of Disney’s most successful animated franchises. The original 2013 movie, which follows sisters Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) as they navigate family conflict, fear, and Elsa’s powerful ice magic in the kingdom of Arendelle, earned $1.28 billion worldwide.
Its sequel, Frozen 2 (2019), went on to gross $1.45 billion globally, while Frozen 3 is scheduled to arrive on November 24, 2027. A fourth movie is also in development.
Some fans argued that Disney should focus on creating new animated stories rather than revisiting existing classics.
“When are we going to get cartoon remakes of the live-action remakes of the cartoons?” one commenter joked in response to Inside the Magic’s article.
For now, Disney has not announced a live-action Frozen remake, but the debate highlights a growing divide among fans: while some would welcome a return to Arendelle in a new format, others believe Disney’s animated classics should remain untouched.
The next live-action remake on Disney’s slate is Tangled, based on the beloved 2010 film of the same name starring Mandy Moore. The film has already revealed its leading cast, with Titans star Teagan Croft set to play Rapunzel. There’s no release date yet.
