Churros have been part of the Walt Disney World snack scene for years, but Magic Kingdom is about to serve the familiar treat in a noticeably different way.
Beginning July 21, guests visiting Frontierland can find new Churro Loops at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. Rather than serving the traditional long churro that guests can carry around the park, Disney has turned the snack into smaller cinnamon-sugar loops served with house-made chocolate sauce.
The change doesn’t mean the traditional Disney churro is disappearing across Walt Disney World. Instead, this new version gives Magic Kingdom guests another option while putting a different spin on a snack they already know.
And churros aren’t the only Frontierland food getting attention.
Churros Are Getting a New Shape
Part of the appeal of a traditional Disney churro is its simplicity. Guests can buy one, carry it around the park, and eat it while heading toward their next ride.
Churro Loops change that experience.
Disney is taking the same basic cinnamon-sugar concept and transforming it into smaller pieces. The addition of house-made chocolate sauce also makes the new version feel more like a dessert guests can enjoy while sitting down at Pecos Bill.
For families or groups, the smaller pieces could also make sharing easier. Instead of everyone ordering an individual churro, guests could split the loops and use the chocolate sauce for dipping.
The new format isn’t necessarily going to win over everyone. Some guests may prefer the classic experience of carrying a full-sized churro through Magic Kingdom. Others may appreciate having a smaller, shareable version available with a meal.
Either way, Disney is giving one of its most recognizable theme park snacks a new presentation.
Pecos Bill Is Getting More Than Churros
The Churro Loops are part of a larger Frontierland menu update arriving July 21.
Pecos Bill will also add a Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger featuring Angus beef, American cheese, house-made bacon jam, and barbecue sauce. The burger comes with French fries.
There is some history behind this particular addition.
Pecos Bill previously offered a Double Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger featuring two flame-broiled beef patties, American cheese, bacon, and Coca-Cola cherry barbecue sauce.
The new burger cuts the double down to a single patty while changing the toppings. Traditional bacon becomes house-made bacon jam, and the Coca-Cola cherry barbecue sauce has been replaced with barbecue sauce.
In other words, Disney isn’t simply putting the previous burger back on the menu. It has revised the concept and reduced its size.
Golden Oak Outpost Is Joining the Update
Guests won’t have to visit Pecos Bill to find something new in Frontierland.
Golden Oak Outpost is adding Hot Honey Chicken Strips served with sweet potato waffle fries topped with marshmallow and candied pecans.
It is easily the most unusual combination among the three new offerings. The chicken brings a sweet-and-spicy element, while the waffle fries borrow flavors commonly associated with sweet potato casserole.
Together, the three additions give Frontierland several new food choices beginning July 21.
Still, the Churro Loops could attract the most attention because they take something so familiar and make it look completely different.
Disney isn’t eliminating the classic churro from Walt Disney World, but guests stopping at Pecos Bill will now have a downsized version to consider.
For churro fans, the biggest question may simply be whether a smaller loop dipped in chocolate can compete with the classic Disney snack.
