Disney and Kobe Bryant Just Collided in the Most Unexpected Way
If you’ve ever walked through Disneyland and felt like it was sacred ground, you understand why this story resonates so deeply. Vanessa Bryant, the wife of the late NBA icon Kobe Bryant, recently revealed a set of unreleased Nike sneakers on her Instagram stories, and the internet has been buzzing about them ever since. These designs are part of what sneaker enthusiasts are calling the Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Polka Dot” pack, and it’s clear where the inspiration for them came from.
Minnie Mouse. Obviously.
Two colorways make up the pack. One is a deep red shoe covered in white polka dots with a black Swoosh. The other flips it, going white with red dots and keeping that same black Swoosh. Both scream Minnie Mouse in the best possible way, and that is entirely the point.
The Bryant family’s love of Disney is not a secret. Vanessa has shared countless trips to Disneyland over the years, both with Kobe before his passing and with her daughters since. The parks have clearly been a place of joy and comfort for the family, and that history makes these shoes mean so much more than just a fun colorway.
The real gut punch, though, came when sneaker site Sneaker News connected the designs to something Vanessa posted on what would have been Kobe’s 42nd birthday. Her caption? “Kobe will always be the Mickey to my Minnie.”
That’s it. That’s the whole story right there.
There Might Be a Kobe Marvel Shoe in the Mix, Too
Vanessa’s Instagram reveal did not stop at the polka dot pairs. A third shoe, a high-top this time, showed up alongside them wearing what looks like a very Iron Man-inspired color scheme. Red body, gold accents, and a blue and white Swoosh. Given that Disney owns Marvel, it would fit right in with the rest of the collection.
The Nike Kobe 6 Protro is already one of the most iconic silhouettes Kobe ever wore, so seeing it reimagined with Disney DNA feels like a natural fit. Vanessa has been steadily sharing personal Kobe footwear designs in recent years, each one tied to something meaningful from his life. Another recent reveal, a Kobe 5 nicknamed the “Eagles,” nodded to the Philadelphia NFL team Kobe was known to root for.

No Official Release Date Yet
Before you sprint to Nike.com, pump the brakes. Nike has not confirmed anything about these designs, and there is no official release information out there yet. What Vanessa shared appear to be early samples or mockups, so a retail drop is not guaranteed.
That said, the response from fans has been enormous, and if Nike is paying attention, they know what they have here. A Minnie Mouse Kobe 6 with the “Mickey to my Minnie” origin story behind it? That is not just a sneaker. That is a collector’s piece with a soul.
For now, all we can do is wait and hope this one makes it to shelves. Because some releases deserve to exist in the world, and this is absolutely one of them.
