Two Major ‘Toy Story 5’ Stars Showed Up at Disneyland Together Before Movie Release
Nine days before Toy Story 5 opens in theaters, two of its stars decided to spend a Tuesday at Disneyland Resort. No announcement. No scheduled appearance. Just Tom Hanks and Conan O’Brien showing up at one of the most visited theme parks on the planet and making the day of every guest who happened to be in the right place at the right time.
The surprise visit happened on June 10, 2026, and for anyone who was there, it is going to be a very long time before a regular Disneyland day tops it.
What They Did at the Park
Hanks and O’Brien started their day at Disney California Adventure, heading straight to Pixar Pier to meet Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear. The characters were wearing new accessories tied to the Toy Story 5 release, giving the visit a direct connection to the film, which arrives in theaters on June 19. Hanks has voiced Woody in every Toy Story installment since the original in 1995. O’Brien is new to the franchise, voicing Smarty Pants, a brand-new character making his debut in the fifth film.

After Pixar Pier, the pair crossed over to Disneyland park, where they surprised invited guests at an advanced screening of Toy Story 5 at the Theater at Disneyland. Guests who had arrived expecting a standard park day found themselves watching an unreleased Pixar film in the same room as Woody himself. That is the kind of thing that gets talked about for years.
Where This Fits in the Toy Story 5 Press Tour
The Disneyland visit is one piece of a press tour that has been generating significant momentum all week. The night before, Taylor Swift took the stage at the Toy Story 5 world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, performing her original song for the film before being joined by legendary composer Randy Newman for a live duet of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” that the audience completely lost its mind over. The premiere moment has been circulating everywhere since it happened and has added a cultural weight to the Toy Story 5 rollout that goes well beyond a standard Pixar release.
The press tour continues this Friday, June 12, when ABC airs “Toy Story 30 Years and Beyond: A Special Edition of 20/20″ from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. EDT. The one-hour special covers four decades of Pixar through the Toy Story franchise, featuring interviews with Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Tony Hale, and other original cast members alongside conversations with Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter and director Andrew Stanton. Taylor Swift also appears in an exclusive interview discussing why the film’s message inspired her original contribution to the soundtrack. The special streams on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.
Toy Story at Disneyland Right Now
For guests heading to Disneyland Resort before or after Toy Story 5 opens on June 19, the park is currently one of the best places to celebrate the franchise outside of a movie theater. Toy Story Midway Mania, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, and Jessie’s Critter Carousel give fans direct access to the characters and world of the films across both parks. Alien Pizza Planet handles the dining side of the Toy Story experience, and the limited-time Paint the Night parade currently running at Disneyland park features Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and other beloved characters in a nighttime celebration that is timed almost perfectly to the film’s arrival.
Hanks and O’Brien’s visit lands at the exact moment when Disneyland feels most alive with Toy Story energy, and the guests who were there on Tuesday experienced that energy in the most direct way possible. Two stars of one of the most anticipated animated films in years walked through the gates, met the characters, and surprised a room full of people who had no idea the day was going to turn out that way.
Toy Story 5 opens June 19. After a week like this one, the anticipation is at a level that thirty years of franchise history has fully earned.
