Now, a new ban has been put into effect at the resort following a serious safety advisory issued for Central Florida.
Red Flag Warning Triggers Immediate Safety Precautions
On March 17, 2025, a Red Flag Warning was issued for Central Florida, including Disney World. These warnings occur when a combination of dry air, strong winds, and warm temperatures creates an extreme fire risk. With wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph, the conditions have forced local officials and Disney to take immediate action.
Guests should be aware that these warnings are not just routine weather advisories—they indicate a serious fire hazard where any open flame could lead to dangerous conditions.
What Guests Can No Longer Do Under the Ban
As a direct response to the fire risk, Disney World has issued a burn ban effective immediately. This means:
- No campfires are allowed at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground during this time
- No charcoal grilling at Disney resorts or picnic areas
- Guests must avoid smoking in dry, grassy areas
- Guests should not leave vehicles parked on dry grass, as hot engines can ignite fires
If you’re staying at a Disney resort, particularly at Fort Wilderness, this ban will affect your ability to cook outdoors. Gas grills may still be permitted at select locations, but guests are encouraged to check with Cast Members before use.
Could This Affect Nighttime Fireworks?
At this time, Disney’s nighttime spectaculars, including fireworks at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, remain scheduled. However, guests should note that if wind conditions worsen, Disney could modify or cancel these shows at any time. Fireworks require careful safety measures, and with gusty winds expected throughout the evening, there’s a possibility that performances may be adjusted.
How Long Will This Ban Be in Place?
For now, the ban is set to last from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on March 17, 2025. However, if high winds and dry conditions persist, local authorities and Disney World may extend the ban for additional days.
While this restriction may be inconvenient for some, it is necessary to keep both guests and Cast Members safe. Florida’s dry conditions, mixed with strong winds, create an unpredictable environment, and this precaution will help ensure that Disney remains a safe destination for all visitors.
