15 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Cruising With Disney

4. Commitment to the environment

Disney’s ongoing dedication in helping the environment takes many forms. And Disney Cruise Line echoes such eco-friendly approaches in so many ways. In fact, every Disney Cruise ship even has an actual Environmental Officer onboard for each excursion in order to oversee recycling, waste-management, and other operations. Disney Cruise Line was also the first to use a 100 percent non-toxic hull coating that helps to increase fuel efficiency and reduce the ships’ surface resistance to water. Some of the innovative recycling efforts in effect onboard include the collection of condensation from shipboard air conditioning units for washing decks, and offloading over 1,000 gallons of used cooking oil at ports of call around the world to be converted into biodiesel fuel. In partnering with Disney Animal Programs and nonprofits, Disney researchers also play a key role in helping to restore corral reefs around Castaway Cay and other Bahamian areas.
