11 Tips for Planning Your Walt Disney World Itinerary

Happily Ever After

3. Transportation time

As you are thinking about your Disney itinerary, you need to make sure you are budgeting in transportation time. Depending on where you are staying and the transportation options available to you, it can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes (or more) to get from your resort to the parks. This can be the difference in being on time for a dining reservation and completely missing it, so plan accordingly and give yourself plenty of buffer when deciding what times to schedule dining or FastPass reservations.

2. Fireworks/nighttime shows

All of the parks have some sort of nighttime shows, and they are incredibly popular! If you want great views for any of these shows, you will need to plan to stake out spots at least an hour beforehand. This is a great time to grab some snacks, people watch, and soak up the ambiance of the parks at dark. If fireworks aren’t your thing, it can be a less-crowded time to ride some of your favorite rides again (but just trust us, stay for Happily Ever After at least once).

1. Be prepared to be flexible

Maybe you miss the bus and have to wait another few minutes to catch the next one and end up missing your first FastPass window. Maybe the parade crowds keep you from making it across the park to your dining reservation (this can happen especially at Animal Kingdom). Or, just maybe, you get halfway through your trip and just want to nap instead of hitting the parks. The best thing about Disney is that there is ALWAYS something amazing to be doing, even if that’s sipping umbrella drinks by the pool all afternoon. Don’t be afraid to be flexible and mix things up a bit with your itinerary.

Planning a Disney trip doesn’t have to be hard, and using an authorized Disney vacation planner can also help to smooth out your itinerary. Happy planning!
