2. Expect the unexpected and be prepared for it.

If you’ve been a parent for any length of time, you have probably already learned that our children can surprise us. They can, unfortunately, be well one night and wake up sick the next morning. They can act completely different in unusual surroundings. They can become fearful of new or unfamiliar things (i.e., characters in costumes, the loud noises from fireworks, etc.). Something you hope to experience in the parks with your children because you’re sure they will love it can end up being something with which they want nothing to do. Because the unexpected is always a possibility, have a plan B in times of crises, such as a screaming fit during a parade, an unexpected illness, a scraped knee on Main Street, U.S.A., a full meltdown when meeting Mickey, etc. The unexpected can only sour your trip if you have no plan for ways you will respond to these minor adversities on your trip.
