Walt Disney World Glossary – Top 10 Disney Terms You Should Know

Glossary

Visiting Disney World is guaranteed to be a unique experience. Part of that experience are the terms that Disney employs to refer to employees, theme park perks, and other theme park terms. Whether you have been to the parks numerous times or you are planning your first trip, you need to incorporate these terms into your lexicon so you can sound like a seasoned pro!

10 – My Disney Experience – this refers to the Disney app and website where guests can make and manage selections that relate to their trip. In the app, guests can view their dining reservations and FastPass selections, as well as view menus for quick service dining options and see up-to-the-date wait times for attractions. Guests can also view maps to find character greeting locations and restrooms! You’ll definitely want to download the app before heading to the parks!

9 – Fab Five – this term refers to the five classic Disney characters: Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, and Pluto.

8 – Extra Magic Hours (EMH) – For guests who are staying on property, Disney allows these guests early admittance to a park, as well as allows guests to stay late in theme parks. The schedule varies, so make sure you check the schedule online before making your plans on what parks to visit on each day. Knowing this information can also help guests determine what rides to utilize FastPasses on.

7 – FastPass+ – Disney World no longer requires guests to present their tickets at distribution machines to get paper FastPasses. Guests wishing to get FastPasses must use the MyDisneyExperience app, go online, or use one of the FastPass+ kiosks in the parks. Using any of these choices, guests are prompted to select three experiences they wish to have. Guests can then customize their touring plan and select the times that work the best with their schedule. Be aware that all FastPass+ selections must be made in the same park. However, after using your first three selections, you can select additional FastPasses one at a time at a FastPass+ kiosk.

6 – Advanced Dining Reservations (ADRs) – a lot of dining experiences on Disney property are very popular and guests should consider making advanced dining reservations. Guests can make ADRs up to 180 days prior to their stay. Guests can make their reservations through the MyDisneyExperience app, the website, or by calling the Disney Dining line.

5 – Rope Drop – this term refers to the opening of the parks at Disney. Be aware that rope drop may occur before the official opening time of the park, so you may want to consider arriving at the park 20-30 minutes before the listed opening time if you want to experience rope drop. Currently, Magic Kingdom also offers a welcoming ceremony featuring classic characters arriving at the Main Street Train Station and welcoming guests to the park for a day of fun.

4 – The TTC – the simple acronym for the Ticket and Transportation Center. Guests can reach three of the four Magic Kingdom resorts, the Magic Kingdom, and Epcot from this transportation hub. Additionally, guests needing to purchase tickets for any of the parks can do so here and avoid lines at the theme park.

3 – The Resort Loop – this term refers to the resorts that are serviced by the Monorail: the Polynesian Village Resort, the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and the Contemporary Resort. All of these resorts are reached easily via monorail from the Magic Kingdom if guests are desiring a short nap in the middle of the day or additional dining options during their day.

2 – Memory Maker – this service is offered to guests and Annual Passholders that allows you to view and receive photos taken by PhotoPass photographers throughout the park (think the photographers on Main Street, U.S.A.), as well as on-ride photographs taken while you’re enjoying all of the fun. Through this service, you can download photos, as well as add fun frames to remember your trip!

1 – MagicBands – these plastic bands hold everything that you need on your trip. The MagicBand is your hotel room key, the holder for your FastPass selections, your theme park tickets, as well as your credit card (if you set up your MagicBand to have charging privileges – available only for resort guests). You can also customize your MagicBands in the color of your choosing and dress them up with BandIts available at all shopping locations throughout the resort.

Learning the Disney lingo is part of the fun! We hope that these glossary of terms help you understand all the terms that you read about and will hear on your upcoming Disney vacation!
